Gaming rig help?

Hey guys, I'm tired of only playing console games or on my slow laptop.
I've finally decided to get on the ball and get a setup.

Should I buy a rig or study up on building one?
If I were to buy one, what would you recommend buying, with high power/whatever else.

If I were to build one, what all would I need? What components would you recommend to buy? How many monitors would you have, at the least? Keyboards? Speakers? Mouse?
What else, if anything, do I need?

Give those guys a budget and they'll give you a list. Make sure to let them know you need everything, including monitor(s), keyboard, etc., rather than just the tower

Everyone here is gonna tell you to build your own, including myself, for good reason. You will get a much better bang for your buck.

Check the sticky at the top of the forum though, it will direct you to threads that will help you, including how to build, and building/upgrading advice.

edit: Yeah what supra said.

it is better build from scratch
worth it, man
depend on budget and game you usually play
eg:
for jet simulation, need big monitor
for dancing game need budget on speaker
for arcade need very good controller
etc, etc

Build from scratch for sure.. I actually just built this with the grand total at $1038.. (No keyboard, screen, or mouse)

SO... New PC... Here's the specs, I'm building it myself and ordering over time.. Yes this will be watercooled due to the high heat output of the IB i5, will be a very very high powered and quietly cooled system in an orange and blue color scheme (;

Intel Core i5-3570k 3.4Ghz OC'ed at 4.5Ghz
ASROCK Extreme4 Z77 Motherboard (2 PCI 3.0 slots so I can add an extra GPU)
Galaxy GeForce GTX 660 2GB Dual Fan 1111Ghz OC
4GB Corsair Vengeance Blue
Corsair Enthusiast Modular 750W PSU
Corsair Hydro H100 Dual Fan CPU Water Cooling
120GB Samsung 840 Series SSD (For Windows 7 boot and a few apps)
1TB Western Digital Caviar Black (Storage)
NZXT Tempest Airflow Max Case (4 120mm Case Fans)
1 80mm Blue LED Lit Fan (Just below GPU)
1 120mm Orange LED Lit Fan (Side mounted for extra air "extract")

1. Buying over time is a bad idea. Wait until you can afford a complete build and buy it all at once.
2. ASRock is garb
3. NZXT cases suck
4. You didn't list a power supply
5. Blue and orange LED fans? Is this 2005?

I agree with you on buying all of the components at one time, and with the "aesthetic" blue and orange LED fans, but really? You're going to say that about ASRock?

They are a great company. I build budget gaming rigs for friends of mine and I have never once had a problem with one of their boards. I have purchased somewhere near a half of a dozen motherboards from them with no out of the box issues, nor issues in the long run.

They are great for budget gaming rigs, but I do agree to a point. If you are spending more than $700 on a gaming rig, you might as well go with a really nice ASUS or Gigabyte board.

Also, you're hating on NZXT cases? Why could you even hate on them? I understand some peoples preference to Coolermaster or any other brand, but can we get some reasoning on your feedback?

If you were to actually read his post, without browsing over it and deciding that you are either jealous of this potential rig, or just arrogant, then you would have seen the PSU LISTED (see direct quote below).

Sh0ckw4v3, I suggest providing a budget for users to work with. We need to know if you are spending $600, or if you are spending $1,000+. If you would like to provide a budget for me to work with, message me. I will be glad to give you my recommended build for your budget.

Good luck!

P.S. - ALWAYS BUILD YOUR OWN COMPUTERS.

ASRock has been wildly unstable over the years.

NZXT makes crappy cases that fall apart and make all sorts of noise. They are cheap cases marketed towards the people who just want that look. They're made with steel and cheaply-made plastic. The buttons feel cheap, the connectors are usually cheap. There's a reason everything is so cheap.

ASRock has been stable for me and everyone I have built a rig for. It's been 3-4 years since I started building rigs, ASRock was always my budget board brand.

Honestly, when you spend less than $30 on a case, don't you expect it to be low quality? There are obvious things that point to something being low-quality when you are purchasing it. At the end of the day, you need to research EVERYTHING that you are going to buy to make sure it will be sufficient enough for your desires.

in all fairness asrock has been better than its precedent recently

and if you aren't going to spend much on a case you can still get a decently made one. it just won't look garishly gay

I've been building computers more than twice as long as you, for what it's worth. ASRock has a looooong reputation for being shoddy. Haven't given them a second look in years, so if they have gotten better I've ignored it.

As for cases being **** quality, they don't have to be. And NZXT's cases aren't even super cheap. Hell, that one costs $70.

I think ASrock pulled themselves out of the muck when 1366/1156 came out. Their newer stuff more than competes with equally-priced competitor boards.

Ditch the cheesoid case.

Build one, its pretty easy if you have a general idea of what is going on, if not there is youtube. Plus you get to put whatever you want inside of it.

My computer specs
AMD processer 3.4 overclocking 3.9
RAM 16 GB I can go up to 24 GB
1TB HDD
Evga Geforce graphic card

For the most part its rated at 7.4 besides my crappy hard drive. Have fun!

ASRock is good for budget. Very popular nowadays. NZXT is known for it's gaming cases. Maybe he already had a power supply. Why not have LED's? Adds some spice to the machine.

Maybe he bought over time because he could not afford it all at once,

I was apparently wrong about ASRock. They have a sketchy history, though.

"Gaming cases" don't exist. Flashy, cheap, plasticky cases exist.

Buying over time is a bad idea. If you can afford to buy parts over time, you should save that money and buy everything at once, your money will go further that way.

Agree with building one, I just did, and could never get anything in that price range pre-built. NewEgg and Tiger direct are your friends for this. With these newer SSD drives, your computer will be up in seconds.
