New Ego 9 owner
So, I have been an Axe guy and still have an Axe that will be my main gun. However, had a great deal to grab an Ego 9 and did it. I have been reading up like crazy on everything I can with the Ego 9 marker and have a couple questions.
1.) Do most under bore the ego or over bore?
Reason I ask is the Axe has an upgraded bolt that needs to run on lower dwell and under boring helps with the fps being within 5+ or -
2.) Best place to grab barrels for the Ego 9?
I have the DW and a Lurker barrel, but really love the OEM look of the stock barrel. So, depending on answer above (.693 over bore), that will lead me to boring out the stock barrel to take freak inserts or just pick up an OEM set of barrel backs from planet E.
3.) Anything I should look out for with this marker?
Seens all videos on pulling the gun apart and cleaning it. Thinking of modding the marker but only the bolt and maybe reg.
TIA

Be sure that solenoid has the plank kit installed. Take the gun apart and take the soelnoid off and flip it over...you should see two "planks" sitting inside...Some Ego9s had an issue with shredding the orings, so Planet came out with the "planks" for them.

I got my 09 not to long ago and had a few headaches getting it to perform properly. Don't know if you will have my issues but I had major chopping issues right out of the box. Was excited to get the marker and my first day on the field was a mess.
Fix----
GET A PLANT KIT!!!
Reset your board to factory settings
The following threads i found were extremely helpful. After getting my plank kit, resetting my board, and working my LPR, my 09 has been amazing to me. I am completely in love with it

The barb was a temporary fix before the plank kit was available.
I made the mistake of getting both the plank and the barb because i didn´t know. I asked Bill (the tech here on the Ego blog) and he said if you run the plank kit you are good , no barb needed ....but I´m my case he said no big deal on leaving the reduced flow barb in as well.
bottom line, just get the plank and fine tune the LPR ( I run 1.5 turns in) and you got a smooth marker

the noid barb and hose were a smaller inner diameter than the original pieces on the gun. This decreases the air flow and makes the cycle a bit softer to not damage the orings and make the gun a bit more smooth.
I have the planks and the barb/hose in my 09 and it shoots very nice.
As far as over/under boring. If you already have freak inserts, buy a Shaft3 back that is already bored to accept them. I know a local field had some and warped sports was selling them a while back so those might be good places to check. That way you don't have to modify your stock barrel and risk that being a detractor if you go to resell the marker.
If you aren't breaking paint or shooting the most fragile paints don't bother upgrading to a cure4 or other bolt. You can, but unless you have paint handling issues in the gun it's probably not worth the investment.
You could get the Zick2 kit (if you can find one any more). Some have seen additional success with this making the gun more smooth, others don't seem to notice it. I put a Zick2 in my SL8R and really didn't notice a massive difference in how the gun shot (granted my SL8R had 50k on it when I did it and the Z2 was brand new...) so take that as what it is.
The SL3 reg upgrade isn't a bad idea, but depending on how you value a being able to shoot some extra shots toward the bottom of your tank the price may be a bit of a turn off.
Otherwise don't waste your money, other regs from other manufacturers aren't different enough or are inferior to the stock reg, and most other companies after market parts for the Ego are a gimmick and aren't worth the investment. You are better off dropping the cash on paint.
