There are lots of reasons to play pump. What got me hooked was the savings. I could play pump every weekend for a month for a little over the cost of one day of electro play (about the same paint usage).

Beyond that there is the challenge. Nothing like taking out a guy shooting semi with a single shot to the mask. Because of the added difficulty of getting eliminations, each one is that more rewarding. And once you get used to it, it isnt all THAT hard to play open class pump versus non-ramping semi players. Admittedly once you get a bunch of tourney guys bearing down on you, walking the trigger and dumping pods, it can be a bit daunting.

You combine the challenge of having to pump and re-aim each shot (its really hard to keep yourself stable enough that you can do legitimate follow up shots like you can with semi) with the inherent lightness of a minimalist pump setup, and you get massively changed game strategy. Games are more about positioning and strategy than laying down streams of paint and suppressing fire.

Its a very different type of play from tournament speedball. Personally, I love both styles for their own reasons.

I'm a major pump advocate for new players. I think it teaches the game right, and shows how limited ROF really is. If you want to compete better to learn the real skillz and buy the marker when your at that level. The local NPPL team (back in the day) played local tourneys (against PSP ramping ROFs) with pumps because they'd still win, and get better in the process. It teaches skills and helps you learn about yourself as a player. I'd say woodsball/recball is more often then not more fun played with a pump, and big games/competition/or just once in awhile its great to break out the elctro semi.

After playing since 1995 I thought a change would be good,never shot a pump on the field ever
Went to a Big Game at Davis Ca and found pumpers were schooling people inc. myself,not something Im used to at a public field
Recently bought a Hammer 7,after 1 day of play Im hooked,will dedicated at least 1/2 my play this year to pump only play
