How much did your books cost you?
I just got done figuring out what books I need for my classes, and it came to 272 dollars. I figured my calc book would be expensive but it was only 35 bucks. It all came out pretty cheap. Just wondering how others compared.

Damn that's really expensive. I just ordered my books from Amazon last night after making this thread, I saved about 70 dollars. My school book store completely ****s everyone over with the book buyback prices so really I just don't even want to buy from there at all. I got 3 dollars for a 50 dollar book last semester. Amazon prices are always cheaper, too.

I took a 19 unit semester at a community college and the books alone were almost $900.

I either barrow books from friends in the same class I'm in or torrent them. I think the last time I actually bought a book was begining of freshman year.

My first 3 years would have cost me somewhere around 1000 to 1500 a semester if i bought new. My 3rd year i had like part 1 and 2 of classes that finished the book from part 1, so i saved some money that way. Then i found out that i could be international edition for like 10% of the US edition with no repercussions. I ended up paying around $300 for books last year, my third year. Then this year books have cost me a little more. Electives didnt have international editions and even though im taking less classes and fewer classes have books i still ended up paying about $800 this year for 4 books.

College textbooks were usually a waste to spend money on... most of the time my professor did things their own way and never referred to the text. Plus with everything Powerpoint and the like, some my text books were never cracked until studying for finals. Then, they had some use; but it was a waste to buy them brand new every quarter. I mean in one year ( 3 quarters @ The Ohio State University ), books cost me somewhere between $1300 and $1500!
It was then i turned to finding books through Amazon or downloading electronic copies. Saved me tons which I turned around and spent on paintball, lol!!!

Amazon has been $50-$100 cheaper per book for me ($130 vs $200 each). Combine that with a hunt for PDF's in circulation online and you can save quite a bit of money.

About $200 per semester, different majors cost more though. With my electives I would pick classes that not only interested me but also had cheap books which helped. Renting either online or through your schools bookstore is also a good idea to cut the price and shopping around online is key. I used amazon and half.com and never have been screwed.
This is my last semester of undergrad and I spent $7 on one textbook.

I downloaded my econ book for free just by typing in the book name followed by PDF in google search. Many people upload books.

havent bought books all year. I just download what I can, then if I can't find it, just study in the library since they have every book for every class. Can be a pain, but hey, it saves money.

I spent 300-400 last semester. My school has a lot of books custom made specifically for my school, by my school so amazon is not really an option. Even the used versions (if they're any available) are still worth a good chunk.
