board setting for a G7 fly?

hey guys, i just nabbed a G7 from CL it was a team used joy, it has a virtue board put in. kinda miss the oled but meh, 9v's FTW. anywho, after tearing her all down and cleaning it out, i reset the board to whatever the default is, i shot a half hopper and chrono'd it, seemed pretty loud, just wondering what the stock settings are supposed to be or what you have found to be best for the dwell? i have no tester for the LPR so i don't know where it is at, the HPR screw is nearly flush with the reg housing to get 285. i would look through the manual but all the links go to angels dead site.

first angel i have had/worked on in years so a little refresher is nice, thanks guys

The factory default on the Virtue board is 14ms dwell, which is high for the G7. You could safely lower it to 10, which should make a difference in terms of the sound signature and also velocity, if it is high.

*edit* You can download the gun manual here: http://angellasereyes.com/images/ANGEL-G7-March-05.PDF and the Virtue manual here: http://angellasereyes.com/images/Vir...d%20Manual.PDF

thanks strangelove, i have heard good things about the G7's first one i have had my hands on, and first angel i have seen in the area in use in a LONG time. so i am pretty excited, i just want to make sure i have it set up right so i don't judge it on bad settings. wish i knew what the LPR was running at.

The G7 platform is great, I think you'll enjoy it. The A1 LPR gauge can be used on the G7 series and only runs about $25, so if you want to get the gun finely tuned, it'd be worth picking one up.

i'll have to dig around and try to find one then.

also realized i put fly at the top, it's not a fly, just a G7

also need to try and find a smaller bore back. this .691 is way to big. wish i could find a joystiq stiffi in a .685 or .682 or something around there

i'm confused, it looks like the thread is old style but the threads themselves are different from my LCD but i put the LCD's barrel on it and it screwed in fine...

The LCD and standard G7 use the same barrel threads. The G7 Fly threads are finer, more like Autococker threads. You can see a visual reference here: http://www.pbnation.com/showthread.php?t=2316700

If your LCD barrel screws in, then it should be old-style threads.

i appreciate it big shot, but i am essentially broke at the moment, and this way i we won't have to worry about either of us ripping the other off.
yes thank you strangelove, it seems to be the old style has the longer neck before the threads.

i'm going to try and drop the dwell and toy around with it and see if i can get it tuned somewhat better

ordered a thread adapter, should be able to drop the operating pressures with a .680 bore.

No problem man, if you ever feel like you want to actually adjust, (which I promise you will) offers always there... i wouldnt take $40 for my kit cuzz its worth more lol, i put quick disconnects on both, if you ever pick up your own consider doing that, cost peanuts, and makes life a lot easier.

i'll probably try to find one myself, i am a tech at the local field and i work on ALOT of markers, so i will be tuning this thing pretty often as my brother will be primarily using it and he is challenged when it comes to setting up guns, and that way i will be prepared for any other angels that come my way.

could you possibly post a pic of your tester with the QD's for reference? sounds like a great idea

they were never popular in this area, and back when i started somewhere in the late 90's it was all autocockers or lowend mechs around here with a couple mags sprinkled in, the first angel i ever saw was back in... 2003 or so? some tournament player came through with a rasta angel, it was the first i had ever seen up close and he was only there the one day, never saw him again.

i had all the magazines i could get my hands on and i would read about all the gear coming out and how to service it and the breakdowns and specifications but back then getting a manual was a bit difficult if you didn't buy the gun. but i did my best to educate myself on everything i could, being a tech there really isn't a go to place to learn everything you just kinda have to grow into it and teach yourself. and i couldn't/can't afford to fly to the tech training classes.

the local shops never carried angels and since about 06-07 only really carried dye and PE. i've had a few i have had to work and i can take them apart and clean them and fix any problems, but i didn't have any testers or real time to tinker with one and set them up, only really just strip it, fix the problem lube it up and send it back out to the field. if that makes sense

and for the most part i am very very mechanically inclined, i can take anything apart and re-assemble it without any prior knowledge manual or diagram and i can usually find the source of any problems and replace or repair the culprit.

What's your frame of reference? Compared to a spool valve, yeah, they're pretty loud. Compared to some other poppet based guns, they're fairly quiet. If you aren't shooting with paint, bear in mind that will reduce the sound signature substantially.
