I have an AMD athlon X2 5200+ in my computer right now. After some research I saw that it is a AM2 CPU type. Looking on newegg and tigerdirect I couldn't find any AM2 type CPUs. I would imagine this is because technology has advanced and AM2is out dated. Can I use another type of CPU such as AM3 or AM3+? The motherboard that I am using is an Asus M2N68-LA and I am running Windows 7 64-bit if that makes a diffrence.

You'll have to get a new mobo that has the socket of the processor you're looking at.

What he said. Some of the AM2/3 stuff is backwards compatible but it's hit or miss and you're better off matching up a current-gen mobo and CPU.

There is a computer build thread, pull together a budget amount and ask in there what would be best to buy with your given budget.
