Try lubing up the bolt some more. Might make difference.

Are your eyes clean?
Are you sure there chops and not barrel breaks?
Are they seeing something when something is in the breach?

Check the settings on your Halo. If the loader is putting too much pressure on the ball stack, it will cause the paint to break.

Also check your detents and see if you are getting any roll out. If the detents aren't holding the ball back, then you will have chopping issues.

The kind of paint you are using could also be a factor. If you are using the super cheap Walmart paint, you will most likely have problems. Same goes for the tournament grade paint. I see a lot of people have success shooting stuff along the lines of G.I 1 or 2 Star and Valken Field or Infinity.

Did you buy the gun from a person, or was it brand new out the box? If BNIB, check the manual to see if there is a troubleshooting section.
Were you shooting in cold weather? Cold weather makes paint brittle.
Do you have a field that techs guns? Maybe you can have a tech look at it.
Is it only when you shoot fast? maybe try another hopper to rule out the Halo.

Best way to see if they are barrel breaks or chops is to look in the breach after you are sure a ball broke. If the breach is coated in paint, then it was a chop. If the majority of the paint in down the barrel, it was most likely a barrel break.

First things first. Spyder detents aren't the best. Check them to make sure the ball retracts fully, and then comes back out fully. Spyder detents tend to clog and stick closed easily, and if they aren't working you'll have nothing but problems. If the Fenix has rubber detents, then make sure you keep a supply on hand. They wear out and need to be replaced often.

You say the Fenix has eyes, but that doesn't mean they're working. Turn the eyes on and try to fire the gun with no paint in it. If it fires....then your eyes are dirty or not working. Eyes that don't work mean chopped balls. Even with eyes that do work, you don't want to be shooting your hopper empty at high speed. As your hopper gets low you need to slow down. Most players just reload at about 1/3rd full as a standard.

Winter makes paint cold and brittle. Spyders are known for being rough on paint even in the best conditions. Cold paint is going to break EASY. The best you can do is to first use durable recreational paint(winter ball if you can get it). Not cheap stuff, not tournament grade. Keep it warm if at all possible. Warm paintballs are more flexible. Use a larger bore barrel, although most spyder barrels are probably big enough. As a last resort just dump all your paintballs into the box and let the air at them. That will soften the shells up a bit and help get them through the gun. Don't let them get too soft.....just softer than they are.

Hopper. Keep your hopper settings on low tension or lower the speed if you don't have a tension adjustment. I'm not familiar with the Halo Too so that's all I can say. Basically, you don't want it pushing down hard on the paint in the feed neck. This will cause your bolt to clip and crack balls before they're fired. Not good.

Make sure you oil the gun up inside. If it's not lubed nicely, you'll end up having to turn your velocity adjuster up higher, than you should. That can be tougher on paint as well since spyders are a high pressure gun. Once you set your velocity I wouldn't go about 270's in cold weather.

Those are a few tips.....my guess is that your ball detents aren't working properly though. That's the most common cause of that much breakage.

1.Return the marker to stock settings. This includes velocity. High velocity can cause ball breakage. Download a free manual from here:
http://www.spyder.tv/support/product-manuals/

2. Clean the marker completely, following the manufacturer's instructions to the dot.

3. If your Spyder uses disposable batteries, put in a brand new, name brand 9v. This means Energizer or Duracell - do not cheap out on the battery.

4. If the problem is not fixed by now, try a different brand of paint.

If at any time you see more than one ball come out from a single shot, it's time to replace your detents.

here is a list of possible culprits
-worn detents
-improper paint/bore match (your paint is too big/small for your barrel)
-dirty eyes
-improper velocity setting (too high)
-brittle paint
-improper hopper settings (feed rate is too high)
hopefully this list will help, i have not shot a spyder or any open bolt blow back style marker in a while so i could be mistaken. hopefully you fix the problem soon. I would say giving the marker a good lube and cleaning would be a great starting point, even if it doesn't fix the problem it will be good for the marker. Like one of the users said before returning your board to factory settings will definitely be beneficial. Most boards have tons of settings to play around with and tweak for optimum performance, that being said these can be improperly tuned (by stupidity or sheer accident). These settings can cause undesirable performance and sometimes chopped balls.

If I'm not mistaken, Spyder boards don't have a reset since it only has preset BPS caps, dwell, firing modes, etc. I do believe a board reset only applies to boards that you can change the settings yourself.

this. most spyders only have mode settings, some have set bps settings, but thats it. the board "resets" everytime you turn the marker off

also, as mentioned before, use name brand batteries, but spyder also makes a 9.6v rechargable that works better than the standard 9v
