Getting back into paintball, is a Nerve still a good buy?

Hi,

I am geting back into paintball after taking about 3-4 years off. I have tried to do some research and I think I know my answer, but would like to hear some other's input who have been around while I was gone. Is the Nerve worth getting now that SP is out of business and parts are starting to dry up? I would actually just like to get a stock Nerve and keep it stock and use as is until I can get a newer DM and use the Nerve as a back up.

I have had a couple of Nerves and I loved them. I have also had about 10 different shockers and I liked them a lot too. I wish SP didn't go bankrupt. As I have looked into buying a Nerve, Shocker, or a DM7+ I keep getting stuck on the fact that SP is gone and parts may be hard to come by.

I know that the eyes are the biggest problem if something happens to them, is there anything else that is hard to find a replacement for and cannot be substituted with shocker parts?

My big question is should I take a chance on a Nerve, or even a Shocker for that matter, or just get a DM7+ since Dye is still in business and DMs are still being produced?

Thanks for any advice anyone is able to provide.

In all honesty, I wouldn't come back with a nerve. Parts are almost non existent, should a problem arise. As awesome as smart parts products are, it is to that point where the only available parts are for ions. I am a die hard smart parts fan so it is hard for me to say this, but from a "realistic" standpoint, you are better off with something else.

Thanks, thats what I needed to hear. I was pretty sure that was the answer. I want one so bad and the prices are so cheap but none of the ones I find are as in as good of shape as the two I sold. Any suggestions on a good gun? I like shockers too but again with SP being gone that is another risky choice. Maybe I'll just stick with the DM's or maybe try and Ego, but I just haven't been able to sell myself on an Ego yet.

parts aren't rare.

It's just that for the money, there are dozens upon dozens of more cost effective options.

DMs and Egos are far from cost effective as well.

Do some research on guns.

MacDev, ICD, Alien, Dangerous Power, Angel, Empire, Invert, GoG and Vanguard are all brilliant marker manufacturers with epic quality products at low prices. Especially once used.

There's always shockers. They have a huge following with a ton of aftermarket parts and upgrades to keep them going. Also, they can be had at 150 -200 if you look for it.

That's what I ended up getting, an '08 NXT. I figure that will last me until I get out of grad school, then once I get a job I can get something with a larger price tag if I want to.

Bigger price tag doesn't always mean a better marker. I use my shocker over my luxe/geo/ego anything. With the right upgrades it'll out perform most of todays high ends.

Since when are shocker parts rare? Lol. I got my very first shocker sft a couple weeks ago and have sourced everything I need or will be needing without issue. The aftermarket still has inventory left and other than maybe a noid everything else seems to be plentiful used. I even went as far as getting another shocker NXT last week. Yes there are plenty of markers out there but as for upgradable and information out there the shocker is hard to beat.

This is coming from someone that has a Mini a Proton and over the past 2 years 5 G6Rs and other Timmy's. I even had two Epiphanys this year. If you like the shocker no reason not to stick with one.

Shocker Noob.

Dude u can buy parts for any smart parts marker on ebay u might have to look for alittle while but i just bought eyes for my gun and i got it in the mail today. So if u want an older marker u can still upgrade it their is tons of people selling their markers or parts but u can even buy a shocker or impulse on ebay for (65-120) bucks 60 being the lowest i seen on their but read the dscrip if u shop on their
