DYE cf boomstick vs deadly wind

i know the boom stick price is stupid expensive but price not being an option which would u prefer.... im only really looking for a .684 barrel so the freak inserts on the deadly arent to much of a positive for me.... i love both barrels but still not sure which one to get.... so which barrel and why?

id go for the deadlywind. technically the CF boomstick isn't even a true CF barrel. its just a wrap on top of aluminum for looks.

Technically it is carbon wrapped over stainless steel for weight savings not looks.

The only steel part of the Boomstick is the control bore (back) IIRC. Also the Boomstick has a longer control bore than the DW's Freak insert system.

The glossy cf of the boomstick can crack and then you're left with a paperweight seeing as how thin the steel is. It's also extremely hard to unscrew if you got paint on it.

Yes your correct. I own one. It is nice to be able to have a stainless steel control bore that is as light/lighter than an aluminum back. The control bore is an inch longer than the original boomsticks and ultralite. Same classic porting design for us Dye barrel fans. Stainless steel in my experience holds its finish much longer than aluminum so you will be getting great performance for a long time.

In fairness you could also get stainless inserts for the Deadlywind which would be a great setup. My response to the other poster was more to just clarify that the Carbon fiber does serve a purpose and isn't just for cosmetics. The barrels are overpriced for what they are but hey, thats what you pay for a Dye product. A deadlywind will obviously offer a ton of bore options over the CF Boomstick however you are still running a shorting control bore length. With the CF Boomstick you get a lot of different tip options including an apex 2 compatible option if thats your thing.

I'd have to lookup the actual weight of the cf boomy, but I've held a few and they felt way heavier than a Deadlywind Fibur with a stainless insert. I'd guess at twice the weight.
There is also is a quick mount Apex2 tip adapter (Fusion) which fits all Deadlywind barrels.

If you want just a 684, you could get a 684 Eigenbarrel, which is probably lighter than a Boomstick, but probably heavier than a DW.

DW is probly the more reasonable choice. I used a CF Boomy when i had my Ripper, but i think it was mostly hype.

Deadlywind is the way to go in my opinion.
1) Cheaper
2) Lighter
3) Fibur-X has exchangeable threads, works if you have multiple markers with different threading
4) Swap-able bore size
I feel the Boomstick isn't worth it.

If you only want the .684 bore then you can just get that one freak sizer.

They are definately not double the weight. The CF Boomstick was something like an ounce or two lighter than my Ultralight when I weighed it a while ago (making it still a very light barrel). You are correct however that the Deadlywind is still lighter. It is also important to note that there is an Apex 2 compatible tip that fits Dye barrels as well. I have a slight preference towards the Dye barrel although I agree that the Deadlywind is more bang for your buck.

Seems that if there were a 15" Fibur w/0.689 insert (we typically only make even lengths, but will do custom lengths), it would weight 80 grams so yeah a 15" CF Boomy 688" is.. 26 grams from being double the weight of a 15" Fibur.

OK enough numbers for now, let's go play some paintball.

Right, my point was the weight difference is negligible, especially when you are considering you have a longer control bore and aluminum tip on the CF Boomstick. You would be saving less than an ounce (.917) with the deadlywind.

Right the control bore is longer on the CF Boomy. It's not a bad barrel by any means, but people think that Dye slaps "CF" on something that it's in the same league as a real CF barrel.
The weight difference is 63 grams or 2.2 oz. Barrels having the greatest affect on rotational inertia (snap shooting), it is a noticeable difference.
The 26 grams is how far off it is from being double the weight!

I have both. Bought the .688 boomy a while back and was in love with it. It handled any paint well. Occasional barrel breaks with larger bore paint. But over all it shot anything I put through it. Recently I bought a deadlywinds freak. And it's almost better. It's annoying to me to bore my paint( I'm not good at bore sizing yet) but unlike any other barrel I've tried it actually shoots through breaks with reasonable accuracy. I've chopped my first ball then played the entire game without a worry and no squeegee. Not as good as after cleaning it, but still good enough to make hits. Personally I like more wieght then the pure cf barrel. And I liked the .688 since it was plug and play. No figuring out which bore size to use. I still regularly play with both. You can't go wrong with either, and I'm still not sure which I actually like best

i actually went with the dye just because i really dont need to bore i only shoot bombz and i liked the look more.... oh and ive read that after a while the cf on the inside of the deadlywind gets pretty beat up and u end up having to buy a new one.

It's actually not true. Or perhaps I should say, if you abuse any of your equipment, it won't last as long as it should.. CF or aluminum. We at Deadlywind have had barrels out there for over 6 years, and check in on some of them (like a random product durability checking) and they are holding up just fine.

Fibur is the only barrel you will only need.
get it and the bore master kit on zephyrpaintball.com
