pm5 UL frame question
OK, So I read the stickies. And it says you can't interchange boards from the other frames because of the solenoid. Is the noid the ONLY problem, or is the mounting pattern different?
For example, if I was planning to use the frame on something that doesn't have a noid to worry about, like a marker with a tray. Will the standard UL board fit then?
Looking at options for my stacked tube viking and possibly another project if my that sells.

I hate to say it, but your question sounds like it makes sense, but it does not.
The UL board will power a 4.5 volt noid just fine, but not much more, but the virtue will power up to a 5v noid.
Noid's a noid, what voltage and is it a 3 way or a 4 way. The problem with proto/dye is the way they mount to the marker, using a gasket and no hoses. If you want to use it on another marker like a viking, it shoudl be just fine, it has no idea what it's connected to, it just clicks the noid and once you figure out the dwell, your fine!

While that is very detailed, And I thank you for the time.
What I want to know is if the board from a dm7 or whatever UL frame will fit inside the pm5 frame if I don't have a solenoid in the way. From what I read the solenoid was a problem because of the size it would bump a standard size board. So the PM5 ul board is apparently different.

I went to check and have no UL frames for a PM5 or PM6 so could not check for you. I know (and so do you) know that the universal boards do not work in a pm5/6, but I don't know if that's the noid or the shape is a little different inside.
I know that they use the same noid in the DM6/DM7/DM8/DM9/DM10/DM11/DM12/PM6/PM7/PM8, and the PM5 uses a different noid. Me, I would try it and see if it's not to much money.
Post up what you find for us proto/dye people to add to our knowledge base lol.

unfortunately money is the issue. I wouldn't ask if i could just buy it all and check myself.
Someone is bound to have a PM5 ul and a DM8 or something they can check the boards with.

Not to point out the obvious, buy why not email Dye? That may better answer your question.

Sometimes I do both. But yeah, I hear ya. Based on the nature of your question, I figured the guys at dye would have a better grasp of the issue - seeing as it is more of a one off.
But it would be good to know what they say once they reply. Worst case, see if someone u know has a UL frame, or a gun that uses one, and then compare them, that might be a quick fix.
Let us know though for future reference.

Actually I know someone with a 5. Won't see him for a few weeks though. I may be able to ask him to ask around.

Dan -
Only question I'd have is if there is an amperage difference, due to voltage issue. The board/noid could get fried as a result, no?

I'm pretty sure this answers it. If a normal tadao board fits...
I'm keeping pm5 ul frame open as an option for my evil m. I'm also looking at the pmr ul frame as well.
The pm5 frame would need a small tray, but I'm looking at making a one piece tray/vasa milled to match my body if it comes to using the pm5 frame.
If I go with the tray I'd like to use a virtue or tadao.

I don't think the board would fry, I think that the worse thing that could happen is it would fire once and shut down the marker due to voltage loss.
In therin there are no guarantees, boards go bad all the time due to normal usage, bad components and abuse, but I think it would be safe.

It's a ul Tadao board I'm using in my ul frame not a standard Tadao board because the housing for the board is actually smaller than that of a regular stock board. I will dig around in my gearbag and parts bins and see is I should happen to have a stock board to make a comparison with the frame but chances are I might not have one. If not I will get with my teammate and see if he still happens to have one.
