Wow. I was the original owner of that blue/orange Excal.
Haven't seen it in years. Fantastic that its still in great condition and being appreciated.
To answer the inevitable, yes, I created this username only to comment on it as I found it through a Google search, and no, I didn't think in a million years I'd find it. That is AWESOME.
I recall specifically the long process by which AKALMP mailed me a milled bare metal body and had me mail it to the anodizer of my choice. Then I had to mail it back to AKALMP for assembly. The wait was agonizing.
There is a matching stock barrel too, with the yellow splash effect all the way to the end. When I ordered it I wanted yellow as the primary fade color. Blue to orange to yelllow. The anodizer told me yellow was a bad choice and that it wouldn't work, and convinced me to go with orange. In my stubbornness I insisted on yellow splash. First time I took it to the field I used to play at (Race Rd. in Maryland) people said it was ugly. Nobody knew what it was. They thought it was some chopped up Intimidator.
So long story short, I traded it as gun whores tend to do. Never happy with what I had. I got a red carved up AKA Cocker with a lot of matching accessories for it. That was a beautiful gun too, I loved it. IIRC the trade was the Excal for the cocker, a mechanical cocker with a blade trigger, a 32 degrees 88/4500, a chrome drop forward and some other goodies.
Mr. Wizardry, if by any chance you were the guy I sent the Excal off to, and I have a hunch that you are (Did it go to FL? So long ago...) drop me a line man. If not and you got it from someone other than me, let me know the history of its travels. Man this takes me back. I haven't played paintball since 2002 or so, but dug up some old stuff out of the closet and found a lot of gear, including that perfectly unused 88/4500 HPA tank and I think I'm going to get back into it.
Sorry for the long old guy ramble.
