So I'm just some civilian sitting here studying for my GMAT exam, and I hear gunfire coming from Ft. Lewis. Nothing out of the ordinary. Seems like maybe a mounted .50cal or other large machine gun. I'm used to artillery fire, gun fire, chinooks, cargo planes, etc. Heard it all my life, no big deal. So taking a break from studying, I get curious and wonder how far away from Ft. Lewis I actually am, and I wanted to correlate the sound with an estimated distance. My best guess, looking at google maps, seeing the layout of the base and guessing where they do it at, is about 10 miles. I get more curious and stream the layout of the base a little more, and I run across some things. Can anyone tell me what I'm looking at? I'm guessing most of them are practice ranges, but I'm most curious about the "bunkers". As none of my family has been in the military, I am very unaware of the whole other side of it all. So please excuse my ignorance.
What am I looking at here? Above and below.
Is this some type of range? Seems very close to buildings and such.
These are what I'm most curious about. Can someone tell me what they are used for?
