Paint size on the tourney side
Im getting back into paintball and I need some advice from PSP ballers..
When I played .689 was the common bore size...I hear paintballs on average were a lot smaller...I dont want to purchase a whole freak kit so I was wondering what sizes are used the most..
please include size and type of paint...
thanks for your help..

Id say most of the higher end paint is .680-.685. You arent going to find much larger than that unless it swells from humidity

I'm still shooting a .689 and I haven't had a problem. As long as you're not trying to get the best efficiency I think it'll be fine for this year

Everything from evil and GI at events last year to 3 star practice paint. It's been right at 290 +/- 3 very consistently and out of an internally stock axe I cannot be happier

Empire paint was consistently right around 0.680 at the beginning of each day at all events in 2012. The more humid events it did swell a bit if you had to make it last between matches.
If you underbore, you'll absolutely want a 0.679 or even a 0.675. If you overbore you'll be fine with a 0.684 or 0.689 (freak kit sizes).
In all my paintball practicing and tournaments in 2012 (50+ practices, 10+ events) I never once used a bore size larger than a 0.679. I used a 0.679, as well as the newer freak inserts smaller than that, and even used my Freak reball insert more than a few times ( 0.670 for mine ).

Now I do underbore, and my field stocks only fresh paint, but yeah the paint was all small enough to shoot reliably through 0.679 all year long. It's certainly getting smaller over time.

i'd definitely suggest getting .685 as smallest barrel back if you are only getting one. Some paint is smaller and I also like to under bore, but if you happen to be somewhere humid or have larger paint then you won't have to worry about barrel breaks. Better to over bore and never need it rather than to under bore and have a day of barrel breaks. .685 is still relatively small in my opinion (I live in florida)

in the psp 3 backs are necessary. 685 689 693 you will not have barrel problems with those three sizes.

I agree that the paint is small. And i normally do like a really snug fit. However, at the events in the morning I go with a slight overbore. I ran either an .687 insert or .685 with almost all empire paint this season. I could have used the .679 with some of the PMI Premium Gold at practice but I had some different paint mixed in so i figured it is better to be safe than sorry.
