So a reputable and well-known tuner friend of mine just offered me this rear drag brake kit for $1200. They go for $1650 new. They sent him the wrong hub (5x100 instead of 5x114.3), and they won't let him return them/exchange them, and he doesn't want to buy $700 hats for them to convert it to 5x114.3. He'd rather just sell them and buy the correct kit. Thoughts? It seems like a good deal, and The Brake Man is a reputable brake company, and drag brakes would come in handy for this car. I'm thinking of saying that I'll buy them if he installs them for me. Save some money on installation. Thoughts? Anybody have some more experience/knowledge with The Brake Man and their products?

I disagree.
I think they should get a protune and call it that. It will save them money and me better tailored to their car.
I'm not a fan of off the shelf maps. Too many variables to trust a generic map for every car with those parts.

Yes, its pretty common.
Awkward, A guy living in the middle of nowhere, where would he get a protune?
Also the OTS maps are very conservative for that exact reason, people have been "chipping" and using OTS maps for years and rarely is there an issue. But i have heard many stories about tuner "X" tuning someones car and it blowing up because it was too whatever.

Well, as someone who lives in the middle of nowhere, I plan to drive to the city to get a protune. But, as I said, being able to switch on the fly if I get terrible gas is really the biggest thing. Base maps are a life saver and I'm not driving on 93 when I'm getting a knock because the gas is so bad, which has happened in a car we've owned. That Sonata we had, we got this gas one time that was so bad it was misfiring in all 6 cylinders, barely running, making like 50hp or some **** and we were so scared it would fall apart while driving.
Cobb has done so much research into tuning the cars and making great tunes for their main three stages. There's a reason why they're the staple in the Subaru community, and a popular choice in others.

I was gonna call you out for jumping on the "as we speak" bandwagon
Ahaha he just happened to text me offering me those drag brakes and I asked when they could start the block and he was like "Already did. Being sleeved as we speak."

mixing in E85 increases the octane levels. running straight E85 requires major tuning changes and it usually runs like pure **** in the winter(hence the reason its more like e70 winter blend) when the engine is cold. So mixing in allows you to venture beyond the capabilities of 93 in regards to boost and timing while still being safe and having good driveability

oh, but wouldn't mixing still require major tuning changes?
glad we don't have a real winter

Thanks man!
Nah he and I have discussed everything pretty extensively, and he knows exactly what needs to go into a motor of this caliber to make it work nicely at these power levels. I'm sure it'll turn out great

Aren't you a pretty ****ty drag racer no offense ? Like can you even trap over 145 where these would be useful , and do you even run your car enough times a track visit where your brakes get dangerous ?
I mean blowing money for the sake of blowing money isn't always wise . There are other things could could blow money on like a 10k solid gold shifter .
