Differance is the coil is much stronger and the piolt block is different not just in looks but in functions.

They put one in mine and it is incredibly solid now. I shoot it and a much more... Complete feeling shot. Of course my old one had a weak coil.

when did this change happen?
I guess that would explain my battery issues.
Also is there something similar for the VX?

Well. I owned 2 GTs.
My first one was from their first run when they first same out.
My newest one is only a few months old. Honestly, they performed the same. Consistency, efficiency and smoothness.
If you aren't having any problems with your GT then don't wast your money on a new solenoid.

Is the new noid softer on paint. I see there are some holes in the new gen 2 noid and wonder if it acts like a feather touch noid?

The GT is so gentle on paint as it is. Hard to get even gentler.

Sounds like I may need to replace mine. Ive noticed I have to change my battery way too often or it will fluctuate +/- 150fps. Battery still tests strong, but problem goes away if I put a brand new one in. Last battery lasted about 5 cases

Yes, what you mentioned above carolinagetc, is typically indicative of needing a noid replacement.
