Dye rotor. Every tank has a "lifetime" of generally five years, so a new hydro means its got a few years of life left.

You may want to do your research and see what you look before you go out and buy. Some people love certain setups and to others they just feel "wrong." Go to a field and hold some of the guns/setups, ask people if you can try their gun, etc. Guns I'd look at Axe or Reflex Rail for a good solid starter gun. Both will be about the same price, comes down to preference, I have both and love both. If you want to save about 100ish on the gun, get a proto rail.
As I said, do your research, or have someone you know/trust help you with your setup or you will get taken to the cleaners.
Gun: Used empire axe\proto reflex - $280-325
Loader: Used rotor - $80-100
Tank: Used 68/45 - $100-120
New Mask - $70-100

How much does he want for it and is it an AM or LT? I'm not a huge fan of eteks, they sound like cannons. It should be a reliable marker though. Do YOU like it?

Try 15 years, every 3-5 years (depending on your tank) you have to have it checked by an airsmith, this process is called hydrostatic testing.

5 years per lifetime/hydro, I'm well aware a tank can last longer than one hydro

An Etek3 would be a good starter depending on how much your buddy wants for it. They are very reliable and the maintenance is a snap. AS a side note I never noticed how loud my Eteks were when I was in a game playing with them so don't let that deter you if you like it.
Rotors are bullet proof and always a good choice IMO.

Make sure you try on some high end masks and find one you like. Your mask should be the piece of gear you really splurge on, its the most important.

Etech isn't a bad choice or axe
Buy an airtank that fits your size ,not what some twit post
Rotors are nice but I'm tired of fixing it for mofos at my field.get a spire ,the tech is way better and would be very reliable and is in fact literally bullet proof( spire torture test on you tube) the spire is also sound activated so it will go well with an etech.and the color Comboes are nicer
Mask wise e flex or i4 ,that's a comfort thing

Both my primary and spare hoppers are rotors because there is none other that is as reliable and robust.

Reflex rails are definitely a good starting gun until you find what you like (and feel like spending a ton of money on a gun) i have one and i love it. Rotor is definitely the way to go as far as hopper. E-flex are my favorite mask
