It was a failed experiment.
50 cal was cheaper and didn't hurt as much. But players never bought into it because it didn't shoot as far and the paint didn't break as well.

I don't know which rock you've been living under, but KEE has been pushing .50 cal HARD along with GI Sportz releasing .50 4 at the end of this last season.
It's obviously catching back on. I've also heard it's been pretty big over in eastern Asia because of restrictions on .68 that aren't there against .50.

Some of us have been around long enough to know that when companies push hard for caliber switches, that doesn't mean it is going to work. This has been tried several times before. This one will fail too.

Catching back on? When was it caught on the first time? This is exactly what KEE wants you to believe, that it is caught on. That's not reality.

How many times in how many different places do I have to say this...
.50 is NEVER going to succeed in switching with .68, although it can work as a powerful tool alongside .68. Nobody is also pushing for a caliber switch, period. There are companies pushing for the option for both, which is how it should be.

The fact that there's a greater interest and sales on in simply means it's catching back on. Also, think of it this way, it never did catch on and it's not caught on. It's catching back on and fighting to finally catch on if it makes sense.
Although, I'm getting sick of people thinking that it's either .50 OR .68. What's so bad about having both?

It never caught on to begin with, and it's not 'catching on' now.
It was a novelty and still is a novelty.

50 cal should be for the younger kids getting into the sport. Then you can move on to the 68 with the big boys.

I think 50cal is a great idea for certain applications. I know my home field offers private groups the option of 50cal and it's quite popular. As already stated, it gets around legal restrictions in certain contries.
It's not a 68cal replacement, but it can increase the popularity of the sport. Not everyone enjoyed getting blasted by 68cal paintballs and not everyone is allowed to either...

Not really. My brother is 7 (started playing when he was 6) and he is fine with getting shot by .68 cal.

It has not failed. My field rents them. We have a strong .50 cal market. I stock Nanos, FM50, and GI50. We rent out every weekend. It's a great way to.expose people to paintball.
It used to be with kids, if 10 came in, 3 would quit quickly.
With .50 we see more kids playing more games. It's great. My team does drills with our Nano

id like to see 50 catch on. problem is my guns wont shoot it. IMHO 50cal is better suited for milsim applications while 68 is for more speedball applications

I tend to see it the other way around.
.50 would be very helpful for killing the habit of sitting in the back bunkers and would also be very helpful for the larger rounds per volume, meaning I wouldn't need to drop a fresh pod in as often which could be crucial for front players.
In Milsim First Strike would be better because of the extra range, whereas .50 would be great for CQB but that's about it, although it would be amazing in woodsball or scenario.
