The more I think about this the more wrong it becomes actually, lots of laws and formulas for how a compressed gas behaves that I forgot about a while ago. And my brain hurts trying to remember them.

There are a ton of assumptions being made.

this is cool ive always wondered what the max efficiency would be if the bolt was stationary with a nearly perfect reg and zero porting in the barrel i figured it would be higher though like 3K owell ha

bob longs coming pretty close with 17 pods off of a 68 in the insight NG so 17*140= 2380 dam hes getting close to no friction anywhere ha

dont mean to troll at all

Also, it's a little difficult to measure the efficiency of compressed air. Calling this the maximum efficiency of a tank, rather than a marker, is similar to saying that the Prius doesn't get 55 mpg, the tank gets 55 mpg. I wish the tank on my Jaguar was as efficient as a tank on a Prius.
did your instructor not stress that mpg is not effeciency
ex and engine can be 85% efficent in converting potental energy into usuable energy but there is alway loss due to heat. 85% of the potental was transfered into usuable energy and 15% was lost due to heat, but mpg is not effeciency.

Internal combustion engines convert maybe 40% of chemical potential energy into kinetic energy to move the car. Roughly 30% is lost as heat dispersed in the exhaust and 30% as heat dispersed through the engine block and coolant. Very inefficient.

When you apply the brakes to slow down, that 40% kinetic energy also becomes heat through friction. One car may get better MPG but not be technically more efficient in converting energy, it simply uses less fuel because it produces and requires less power. However with a Hybrid car like the Prius, some of that energy normally expended as heat while slowing down is instead used to spin a generator, which converts it to electrical energy stored for later use. So while it is not directly linked to MPG, the Prius is more efficient than the Jag.

There has to be something wrong with the math. I was under the impression that a G6r could get better that 2500 shots on a 68/4500. Didn't Bob do an efficiency video where he showed like 3000 shots? I could be wrong.

Yeah, and no one has ever gotten close to replicating those results.

I verified your math by going a slightly different route (liter atmospheres to Joules) and came up with the same value.

I'd be interested to find out the real average mass of those tiny little things they call paintballs these days
