well, if its a steel gun then sandblasting is just fine, but if its aluminum good luck getting it off unless you want to hand sand it

Check out the forums over at Caswell Plating, they have many knowledgable members that can help you with what you would need to do in order to de-chrome a marker.

Any thing chemical that you use to strip will pit the Al also. I have heard of sand blasting but you might not get through all the layers like you'd hope

I worked in a Nickel plating shop (very similar to chrome plating) and I know we had to sandblast some parts after plating them and it took forever to get the Nickel off. granted it was about a mil and a half of nickel but we also had an industrial sandblaster shooting a combo of Silica sand and another sand...

from what I understand about the process of chrome plating is, first they Brass plate it, then nickel plate it...repeat this process two more times then finally plate it in chrome... so you got a lot of layers to get through...also note that just because it is flaking doesn't mean that ALL the layers are coming off your top coat of Chrome might be coming off but the Brass and Nickel might still be on there and if they are its really going to be hard to get it off

you can remove chrome plating from aluminum parts using caswell's anodizing stripper and a stainless steel rod. you have to hook up the part being de-plated and the rod to a power supply and run 12V DC current through them. When you have both hooked up, you wrap a clean cotton clothe around the rod and soak it in the stripper and "wipe" away the chrome until it comes back clean after wiping the part.
