Sly Profit vs. Dye i4

Howdy. I'm getting into the sport, I have money to blow, and I want to pick up a good mask as it seems to be the single most important piece of gear that you have: a good mask will keep you aware and focused, while a bad mask does nothing but distract and hamper you.

Anyways, I'm looking at two masks in particular, the Sly Profit and the Dye i4. Take into account that the prices here do not matter to me, but rather I want to talk about the qualities of the mask.

I've gotten a chance to try on a Sly Profit, and it was insanely comfortable. I have a normal-sized face, but the Profit was honestly really nice. I had good field of view and awareness, I like the aesthetics, and the mask hardly moved unless it was with the natural movement of my head.

I haven't been able to find a Dye i4 to try on, but from what I hear it is one of the premier masks at the present time. I do hear that it's slightly small and you run the risk of leaving your jaw exposed. How does the comfort of the foam and the mask itself compare to something like the Profit or a mask like the Proflex?

Thanks for the feedback,
cckynv

Personally, I say the i4.

While the Profit is a nice mask, it's heavy and air doesn't move as well as it does with the i4. I played with an i4 all summer minus playing with a few different masks, including the Profit.

I got rid of my i4 for a Grill as the i4 doesn't breathe super well either.

Profits are more comfortable, I have an i4 and my friend has a Profit. The i4 is smaller and tighter to your face which you may or may not like. You really should try to try one on as they tend to be very love-hate masks.

I second the breathing thing also. Them being so tight to your face and only having a small venting area means they don't breath as well as, say, proflexes or grills. However they are very light and they aren't uncomfortable (the profits are just insanely comfortable) so it sort of depends on what you value more in a mask. You can't go wrong with either, really.

I have owned both the i4s and profits. I would say go with the i4s all day because you can hear with them. If you have the money tho I would say go events or e-flexes. Better breathing in both.

My 10 year old has a pair of used I4's and they fit her, nice mask but way to small for and adult IMO. I tried on profits and didn't well to my face. Events were great. Proflexs are great but changing a lens SUCKS and the best of all worlds...... EFLEX. Finally, I am getting a pair for Christmas.

Best advice I can give you is try them all on. I support my local pro shop because of these very reasons.

Both are good masks.

best way I can compare them is this

Imagine Strapping into a fighter jet and putting your mask on.
this is the profit

Imagine Sitting into a convertible for a joy ride with some glasses on.
This is the i4

The i4 feel very open and free
the profits fell very secure

I tend to play more ag with my i4's
and more conservative with the profits on.
might just be me though.

and you can sleep with the profits on

Not sure a good mask will keep you aware or focused, but it wont hamper you.

There is a entire forum for comparisons you should search as well:

I own profits and they are very comfortable, and I have not had any issues with the mask. I wouldnt turn down an i4. I occasionally play some lengthy games and the comfort level was a bigger issue for me. But if I got the chance to snag a pair of i4's I would as well.

I4.

I'm 6'5... sure my jaw can be exposed a little bit at times and more so when im yelling, but i have never taken a hit there. The vision is great, its light, great fit, easy to hear out of, good breath-ability... basically its awesome. It looks sick too.

The profits seems heavier, not as easy to hear with, vision is alright, and personally i think they look stupid.

If you can get past leaving the jaw exposed a little bit, depending on the size of your face of course... then id say the I4 should be an easy choice.

When I tried both on, I chose the i4's over the profits. I felt they were more comfortable and I liked the aesthetics of it as well.

Again, try BOTH on back to back, make up your mind there and then ask the shop guy to do a lense swap ( to see how easily you can clean em up ) . personally ive got I4s but all masks have there ups and downs,

I4 = small frame (could be a bad thing) and light
Profits = Very comfortable and foam is awesome,
Im a huge fan of the Vforce Profilers(no longer made new) . not so much on the grillz field view is a lil bit smaller i feel
eVents and Eflex use the same lense from what i gather but are BIG feeling,

all boils down to personal preference.... id really go get another profiler if i can find em NIB

Eflexes kill both of them unless you are 10, 5'2 with a. Rather small head then I would say i4s. I4s are just too small. The eflex or even the proflex are great masks. Super comfortable and breathable.

I've used the profits to ref several times simply because they are probably the most comortable to wear over long periods of time. In cold weather (30 f and below) these things are the bomb. However, to actually play, I use i4s practically all the time. They're small, sweet looking, and give the illusion of being maskless in the good way.

E-flexs by far if they fit ur face and this is coming from someone trying to sell them.

Grillz- Poor vision and bad lenses
Profits- Very poor breathability
i4- Very poor coverage and some have a glare
elfexs- not made for people with bigger than normal noses

I guess choose ur poison lol
