The screwdriver slots are to remove the piercing pin. If you have to pull that be sure to cut a slot up the middle of the screwdriver blade so it wont hit the piercer itself.
But you don't have to pull that out just to replace the face seal (the name of that urethane disc).
Usually just glued in, the old one can be scraped out using a metal dental pick and a replacement stuck in with a drop of superglue.
One thing I've found, face seals from CCI are thicker than the ones on older markers and sometimes are too thick to allow the 12g to pierce.
The face seals sold by Palmers are thinner, allowing more of the piercer to poke through.
