Faster off the break - Off field training

Hey all,

Im looking to increase my speed off the break (not running and gunning) to the corners/snake or a far distant bunker.

I do quite a bit of gym work but was wondering is there anything specific I can do to get quicker? I run quite a bit but it seems that there are still a few guys quicker than me; I can't seem to run quickly with a marker in my hand.

Someone suggested running on the treadmill with weights?

Suggestions appreciated.

Sprints with a weight, in addition to exercises that strengthen your entire lower body. Squats, leg lifts, lunges, etc. Don't forge to work your calves too - they can help launch you off the ball of your foot quicker.

Work hard, but don't get too upset if there are people that are faster than you. Conditioning can make you better, but you can't beat genetics.

you cant really learn speed.. some have it some don't. So the most you can do is train like eforce just mentioned

What's your body fat % ? Extra mass will slow you down. If you want speed, then you have to train for it. Instead of doing 8-12 reps to max out, lower the weight and do 18-20 reps. Also you want to train your fast twitch muscles. Don't run on the treadmill for distance instead do sprints from bunker to bunker. You are creating muscle memory for the results you want.

Lay off burgers, fries, and sodas. Eat good food to help slim down and create a meal plan. It's a lot of work but if you are serious about your goals, then you will have to put forth some major effort on your part. Remember this training takes time and commitment. You can do it.

Thanks guys - all posts very much appreciated.

I have spoken to a couple of trainers at the gym and they are going to setup a schedule for me which includes more "explosive" work.

I'm all for getting my head down and training for results

Thanks again.

Endurance is very important. So i agree with TOTShadow about doing more reps. Its not all about maxing out, keep that in mind.
