Here is a fishing reel I did in inventor. I had help rendering it as I am not the best getting things to look the great using Showcase.

Mix of both really...Pissed off at Autodesk, Most of our customers use NX. (defense and aerospace) I also wanted a CAD/CAM program. (one program, one file)
I'm the test subject right now for Nx.. We only have one license. I will be training the other engineers if we get more licences.

Not paintball related - but took a TON of time in AutoCAD to do.
Start off with this picture of a full back tattoo based on a stained glass window from Windwaker.
Stretch, skew, and trace. With the exception of Link's nose and mouth, the entire thing is a single hatch emulating actual stained glass. Could be laser cut out and stay whole.
Buy a cheap used projector on ebay and a chunk of wood. Many hours later with severe writers cramp from the woodburning pen, we arrive at my sister's Christmas present. I cut it out on a bandsaw after (the perimeter, not the pieces), but didn't get a pic of it complete, I'll have to update later with the cut out version.

That's amazing. I've traced in AutoCAD before ( but nothing that involved) and it can take a very long time.

that's pretty cool and incredibley time consuming...wouldn't it have been easier to just pull down the image and convert it to vector...just sayin

I have yet to try a raster to vector conversion package that worked to the level I wanted - even on good quality line drawings let alone something that needed skewing.

in high school I ran a sign cutter that would take any image and turn it straight into vector outlines, I think it was roland procut or something to that effect. You could then adjust the levels and distort it once it was in there. I remember doing some crazy intricate cuts on it...also if you had a laser cutter you could burn it straight from the vector. I saw a girl do it with a 40 layer sculpture in college, it was insane.

She made a 3d model in rhino, then sliced each layer the thickness of the wood and exported them to the laser, I think it was a dragon or something...

Update on that project...
Outside looks the same because I've been working on the insides but it's nearly finished. After I finish the mandatory parts, just gonna make it look nice

If there's an option to put the viewport in perspective instead of isometric[or similar] would look pretty good.

Interesting thread. I do 3d modeling using solidworks for a living. Can't come to this "weapons site" from work unfortunately or I'd post some of my projects.
Couple thoughts:
Has anyone thought about indexing all these renders? thread is up to 29 pages now and that's a lot of browsing for someone new to it
Anyone done a spyder or similar blowback frame assembly? I have an alternative project in mind that uses stock junk spyder frames as a starting point. I think I have one laying around I can reverse engineer, but I don't want to repeat work if someone else has done it...
forgot I had a couple lo-res renders on FB:

Yours renders looks great. Are you a engineer for a company or just a freelance designer/engineer?
