As the thread title suggests, I've got one of these that's been collecting dust over the years. Will definitely need a hydro test first. But can anyone vouch for how well those tank regs work long term? I guess what I'm getting at is whether it's better to get this tested or if it's wasting money and I should just get something new.

Probably just get something new BUT those are quality regs that probably just need to be taken apart and lubed.

Tanks have a life span of 15 years maximum from the date of manufacturer on the DOT label.
As far as the regs I would lean towards having it serviced if it's been sitting. The lube probably dried out and you may have o-rings that have dried and cracked as well. You just never know when it's been sitting.

Never serviced my 10 yr old cross fire or nitroduck regs. Still shoots fine.
Of course a service could only do good things and give piece of mind.

Yeah if you're dropping $30-$50 on Hydro it doesn't really make sense to drop $50 on a new tank reg as you're approaching newer used tank pricing at that point

i have a crossfire that is about 11 or 12 years old. Been sitting for 8 years, I just rehydro'd it and used it. It works great with no issues of shoot down or anything.

I will say though, the old regs and tanks are LOOONG! I am getting another tank soon just because the new regs/tanks are almost 2 inches shorter!! In retrospect I would have been better off just chucking the tank and buying new.
