how would i remove ear rivets without breaking them so I can reuse them?

I think I know what you're talking about. They are plastic and have two small "arms" on each half with ridges on the inside of those arms.
I don't think those are made by JT though, in my opinion.
Just hold on to your frame and then grab the soft ear and pull it out. The little ridges will finally give way and pop out. Your soft ear wont rip unless it's an older one that should be replaced anyways.

What I did was I got a couple of pairs of needle nose pliers and a friend then used them to loosen the rivets.
Then they came right off.
