how do you "tune" a shocker?

I'm having some problems with my shocker lately, even with the pooty drivetrain.

I've been using http://www.pbreview.com/products/reviews/5295/ as lube and i'm getting FSDO still and every time i'm in the field I always have to break through the bolt stick till my bolt can finally cycle completely. There's no leak on the bolt or anything, but it's that bolt stick that pisses me off.

Also I don't know if this matters but I think I also have a poor recharge rate on the dye hyper 2 reg, should i try a CP mini inline reg? I haven't really though about it since i'd think hyper 2 has better performance.

Never had a problem with cp reg.

Usually I will puck the dwell I want to operate at then adjust the pressure until I get enough velocity. Works every time.

Get dow33, that techT stuff is junk in a shocker. It shoots itself off way to easily. Is your bolt sprung?

Dow 33 is the only way I roll, that being said (I'm not hating on Pooty) but I have heard that some people have had problems with the Pooty Bolt (never used a Pooty bolt myself so disclaimer) you might try and swap it out for a stock HE bolt and see if you have any problems, also your O-rings might be to tight? but no matter what it is you need to get better Lube!

As bnkr king mentioned....You need to do the spring mod on your bolt if you have not do so already.

My choice is Luker lube

If your dwell is too low you can get it to chrono where you want by upping the pressure, but you will have terrible shoot down.

From zdspb
1. Lower the dwell to the minimum setting (or an extremely low setting, such as 12 chirps or 6 milliseconds).
2. Gradually increase dwell until the marker begins to fully cycle. You will know this time because, when the marker has trouble cycling, the sound of the bolt firing will be muffled and sound erratic, denoting inconsistencies. When you reach the point where it fully cycles, the marker will sound loud on each shot fired, with minimal sound difference between the shots (inconsistencies can be caused by other things, such as the reg, please note).
3. Once the Shocker is fully cycling, increase the dwell another 8-12 chirps (2-3 milliseconds), and that will be your dwell setting.

Also, like americanidiot said, check your oring tolerances

Also I forgot to tell you guys that my dwell at the moment is at 11ms. And yeah I'm going to try new lube when my board comes back from virtue.

And yes, my bolt is spring modded and it basically all pooty including the bolt, can, bolt guide, and the spring.

And as for hyper2 reg imo it is better, but **** how the hell am I going to find that big *** allen key to take it apart?! It's a humongous allen key!

For the lube, is sl33k a dow33? and I'm not sure if it's still good because I might have left this in the sun before, but I mean it still has that lube consistency..

Also if this matters, when i take the bolt apart and just play around with it like pushing it in and out of the bolt guide it seems to do the trick.. starting really sound like an idiot move on my part by using that techT lube. lol

sl33k is dow 33. It is the same shocker lube but repackaged. Are you sure you are at 11ms on the virtue board? I know that those boards and the stock boards have different adjustment in terms or ms.

make sure youre not putting too much lube on the bolt itself, if its globbed up it will stick. also what bolt guide are you using? those hybrid ones caused my bolt to stick so try and use a stock bolt guide if u can

Try the below

Bolt guide orings are black
Replace the inner can and inner bolt sleeve orings with new black size 17 orings
Replace the bolt sail oring with a size 16 black oring
Make sure the battery is not old
Dwell 12
Don't crack on the bolt guide. Once it comes to a stop don't go any harder
Zero out the reg and increase the reg pressure until you get 285
You should never have fsdo with the Pooty bolt with the correct orings used in the shocker.

it's funny i haven't played a single game with the new bolt set up I received from you, it's always been the same thing so i have a feeling it's the lube or something went bad somewhere. Also i tried removing the whole bolt once, and the front part of the firing can got stuck so i had to do a little improvising to remove it and it has a little ding by the oring, but i doubt that's it.

and as for the bolt guide, it's always been hand tightened. And as for the FSDO it's retarded and I know for sure it shouldn't do that because when I first received it, it didn't have that FSDO until the day after I took it out to the field and gave that ordeal where I had to break through the boltstick for it to start cycling like a baby again.

Well that fixed the problem -- sl33k lube I've gone ahead and skipped dealing with my hyper2 reg and tried on a hyper3 reg and worked perfect! In-line reg is at 190 PSI and it's cycling properly with the eyes off (no paint). I'm surprised the lube really makes a difference! Also Anti-bolt stick is off, dwell is at 11ms, and I'm not sure what the chrono is at the moment but I'll check back if anything.

womp womppp, still a FSDO on the pooty bolt, it's a lot more consistent now though. It was a pretty cold weather here in so cal this past weekend and I was shooting at around 180-190 psi according to the gauge and was chrono'd at 285-295.

I up'd the dwell to 12 with FSDO setting off, and still fsdo when the gun is turned back on. Any other suggestions besides a complete oring over haul? Also I'm using a hyper 3 reg and its helping a lot with the consistency also.

Any chance adjusting the dwell like an impulse will give any benefit? As in adjust dwell till you get your most consistent velocities then adjust pressure for limit? Or are we basically just wanting to keep dwell as low as possible but still operate the bolt consistently?

well i want to keep it at 11-12 i can go 11.5 also, but ideally some where around that I'm fine, but i just really want to get to the bottom of this. I'm thinking of ordering a complete oring kit and rebuilding the whole thing and see what's up. But what's weird is when im done cleaning the gun the day before, it wouldn't have any FSDO... it would like a charm. 0.o..

theres your problem. abs = fsdo setting. you want to raise it in the winter since grease gets thicker in the cold. for the same reason you might want to raise your dwell about 2-3ms from what youd normally run it at.
