I've played .50 cal with my brother a bit, and examining it, it seems like there are a few situations where it would come in handy.
Snake: Snake is hard enough to stay alive in as it is without having two extra pods to get you through a game sitting on top. More rounds per pods means less pods and more maneuverability.
Woods: For woods ball you're already handicapped as it is with your ranges being as limited by brush as they are, might as well have the capacity advantage and take out more paint in the same amount of pods.
Small fields: Personally, I think it would be amazing to play 3 man on a small speedball field with .50 cal. If you downsize the guns you might as well downsize the field at the same time and gain a new experience from it.
Handicapping: I see players all the time who don't play aggressively because they feel they don't need to, shove a .50 cal marker into their hands and they'll have to in order to get a kill.

The reason fields carry it are for smaller kids. They impact is a lot less.
Splatmaster does not take a 50 cal. Round. It's a proprietary ball KEE makes.

And the difference in the price of a case of 50 cal. Is only 20% which does t always get passed to the customer by all fields

Actually, my wholesale price for 50 cal is exactly the same as for 68 cal. So if anyone is saving money, it's the manufacturer and/or wholesaler.

Yeah, it's cheaper and and you can carry more. I don't do it personally, but if it became more widespread, I'd think about it for sure

In the UK, the general agreement is...
280fps max for .68cal
320fps max for .50cal
I just played a whole UWL tournament today with .50cal, and I can tell you I used 2 boxes of Dark Sports paint (4000 balls), and still had 2 pods left.
It is bang on target, shot a lot of people out - each time, the balls were breaking whereas I was getting bounces from people shooting .68 GI 5 Star paint!
I'm shooting a hopper and a pod and only using 1,000psi. That's about urm... 800 paintballs - maybe a bit less...
A lot of people were interested in it and asked to have a go, and the impression was "Holy **** that has made the Etek4 feel as smooth as a Geo3 - and it is ball on ball!".
Probably would never use it on a sup air field - however, don't see why not...
I love it and I am deffo a fan!
I hate to say it but I didn't use my G6R today

If there existed a conversion kit for some of my older markers, then I would consider playing .50 cal

double post my bad, and you cant carry more paint in your hopper nd pods, or use smaller hopper and pods and have a lighter setup. a few advantages i guess

I was alway under the impression it was for younger players, and trying to get them interested so when they got older they would move up to .68. Never intended to take over the entire game.

It turned out that way... but seriously, the grouping of .50cal and penetration through foliage in the woods.
