Use a comb and "comb out" the hickey. Then twist the end of a marker (think crayola) in circles while pushing as hard as you can trying to hold it in the center of the hickey. You then do it in a star pattern. Start in bottom left, then top, bottom right, top left, top right. Repeat until you can see a noticeable difference. It hurts but it works. This will help spread the hickey and bring it closer to the surface allowing it to yellow and then heal in 1 day rather than 3 or 4.

I used to use this for work all the time because of paintball and because ****s.

I don't know anything about his situation, but it seems like land lines are going the way of the VCR these days. Not many people I know still have one, and we're pretty close to getting rid of ours. It really serves little to no purpose at all.
