If your gonna get a vw, get an old one. Old bugs are easy to work on and aren't expensive. My dad has a 1965 and my grandpa has a 1968 bug. New vw's are expensive when it comes to repairs.

Owned a 2011 VW Polo GTI 6R
Broke down on me several times. Dealers don't know what the problem was and just send me away.
I so hate VW, the way they have treaten me. Sold the car and will never go back to anything VAG related.

I wonder what would have happened if you took it to the corporate level?

Yeah, not to stick up for dealers, but I think we're missing a part of this story. Seems odd that the dealer wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue.

If it's anything like Hyundai, never get a call back.
We bought our Sonata from a dealer. The 2011 has an issue with the front struts that continues to go bad and happens to all cars. It's a known issue. We would take our car in once every few months to get them replaced (for free, mind you, full warranty) and after the 3rd or 4th time they told us they couldn't do it.
Well, we dropped the car off for scheduled maintenance and the front strut. We were told Wednesday pickup. We call in Wednesday and get told Friday. We call Friday and get told next Friday. So we got tired of waiting and went to pick the car up. The manager proceeded to come out and tell us they couldn't do the work on the car and they would not honor the warranty that they sold. So my dad put up a little fight about how we bought the car from there and they wouldn't do **** to it. Yada yada.
We ended up having to use a different dealership because the one we bought it from refused to work on it.
So we took it to corporate and called many times and never got a response.
Now, except for this dealer everything else has been great. But this pissed us off and we sure as hell won't be buying another Hyundai without that getting brought up.

Bad experience with a car made you turn to cock? Seems a little extreme to give up vag over something like that...

have an 03 passat in the family.
powerful (with turbo)
well built. no corrosion, parts are solid
handles nice
cons-
not too efficient coupled with requiring higher grade fuels
everything goes wrong with it down to the radio antenna
***** to give routine maintenance
ride feels rough even with good tires. my buick with walmart goodyear tires feels like i'm on driving a hovercraft compared to it

Owned a '97 GTI, never had a problem. Own a '04 Jetta, NEVER had a problem with it.
People are idiots, its called CORRECTLY doing routine maintenance. It will keep your vehicle running. Don't trust dealerships.
I've always known VDubs to be reliable.
