Probably because many of the places marked as gun-free are also areas where people gather in high concentration. Just because mass shootings happen in areas labeled "gun free" doesn't mean the shooter's choice in location is influenced by such a policy.

I carry my Sig into gun-free posted theaters all the time, and I'm absolutely certain I'm not the only one. I can all but guarantee you that there was at least one armed moviegoer in Aurora when that **** went down.

I don't know if they had anything like this, or how common it is, but in my former middle school, junior high, and high school (Yes, we had all 3), we had an armed police officer inside at all times. I think this is a pretty good option for protecting kids at school. A gun in an experienced police officer's hand is perfectly acceptable imo, but arming teachers (As some recommended) is just stupid.

Or we could spring for metal detectors and automatic locking doors just a bit ahead so intruders would be trapped/denied further access.

Just thinking out loud here. This is just terrible news.

No, it's to say a pen makes it easier to write in ink.

Remember, killing isn't a misuse of a gun. It's the intended use.

Once again, the police with all their fancy hardware, are there just in time to clean up the bodies.

How big of a fine is it to do that? I know it probably varies by state but I was thinking of doing the same.

In Virginia, if the gun free zone is private property, it's a trespassing charge. If it's a government zone, it's a felony.

Here's my state (KS), but you can look at the others at the website:

http://www.handgunlaw.us/states/kansas.pdf

Can also depend on the particular restrictions of the city/municipality you're in.

There are also areas where the signs hold no weight as the right to keep and carry arms is considered a right.

Can't remember where (want to say Texas and Georgia), but there are states and jurisdictions where a sign posted on private property that is not a residence holds no legal weight. All the owner can ask you to do is leave.

"No, were just gonna circle jerk about guns despite CT and NJ having some of the strictest laws in the nation. Why work on the problem when we can call for reactionary responses to the symptoms.

EDIT: By the way, this kind of thinking is what got us the patriot act and the PAST 12 ****ING YEARS OF WAR.

Edit 2: In mass murder incidents, guns kill about the same number per incident as those down with bare hands or knives: guns killed an average of 4.92 victims per mass murder in the United States during the 20th century, just edging out knives, blunt objects, and bare hands, which killed 4.52 people per incident. http://www.slate.com/articles/news_a..._weapons_.html

Keeping that in mind, even if you managed to slow people obtaining guns the death count in these incidents wont lower and may, in fact, increase them if people switch to explosives.

In light of such, it makes arguments about gun control fixing this problem pretty weak.

If the guy went into a classroom carrying a can of HME and killed 40 kids, would any of you anti-gun nuts want to regulate gasoline and fertilizer?

This whole thing could have been avoided. This man would have gotten all the mental help he needed if we lowered the drinking age to 18 and banned Alcoholics Anonymous.
