What is similar to a Drone DX....?
So I have narrowed down my two top choices for a new gun to a Drone DX or an Axe. I have already looked through this forum and the the axe forum on the pros and cons of both guns and still can't decide. I would love to test both out myself, but no one at me field shoots one and my local shop dose not carry macdev. I have been able to hold and shoot and axe and I do like it a lot, but I'm not in love with it. Would a proto rail feel similar to a drone? I know it most likely wont shoot as well as a macdev, but as far as how it feels in the hands what would be the best comparison?

The closest drivetrain to the drone dx is a Geo 1 and 2. Dump valve spools. But a geo sucks compared to a drone in terms of shooting smoothness and quietness. It's about the same size in the hands with the drone being slightly bigger. The drone gives you a lot of the same features as it's bigger better brother the Clone VX. Same regulator, feedneck, on/off asa, trigger, similar trigger frame, and the grips / oled board swap over and work on a drone DX. The drivetrain is stupid simple to maintain on the drone too. Probably the easiest macdev to work on honestly. there's like 5 o rings to lube.
I've own an axe and sold it. I don't like having the electronics up front in the grip. The axe is a wonderful gun for the price and highly modifiable to be very smooth. But it feels cheap. And the asa sucks, always coming loose.

Hmmmm... I will try and see if I can find someone with a geo 1 or 2 and see if they will let me try it out. Will a geo 3 feel similar in the hands? My local shop has a bunch of those.

Also, ans gear has the drone and axe priced really close. I believe there is only a $20-40 diffrence, and agressive sports has drones priced really cheap right now as well. So price dosen't matter all that much to me since they are so close.

I wouldn't compare it to a regular Geo. The platform is small and the shot quality is no where near comparible as the Geo kicks like a mule with the fixed propshaft
It would I guess be closest to a Geo2. Not the Geo3 so much because of the reg spacing and the fact they moved the grip frame kindve back and up into the body more

I have not shot MacDev, but I would worry about getting fixed if a problem occurs. You have looked at your field and no MacDev. Is there a local shop, and do they carry/ fix MacDev? I am not a Hater nor a Fanboy, but if your marker goes down and you can't figure out the fix are you going to have the time to ship for repair? For some this isn't an issue and maybe their markers never go down, but I definitely look at those issues too before I buy a marker.
Btw I have shoot the Axe it is a really good and popular mid range marker with plenty of aftermarket and service if needed. The only thing I replaced on it was the feed neck cuz I wanted a low rise. As for endorsement I traded my a few months back and have recently picked another back up. Solid choice.

Great point, but not even shops know how to work on he Axe or have parts for them.
Macdev has turned over this last year with upping there service and repair centers. We have been brought in to assure that the support is needed In forums, tech contact phone #s, events and to bring on more service centers. All manufactures require shipping the marker in for repair if a warranty claim is needed unless a store is a certified warranty center. A standard store can not administer warranty on any manufactures marker unless they are an approved warranty center. So you statement is untrue and is your opinion. Since you have never owned or even used a Macdev product you have not had to deal with a repair or service center.
If anyone ever has a question you can contact customers service at
1 888 899-3772
Macdev customer support and warranty center.

Anyone that buys a marker should assume that if there is a problem it needs to be shipped in for repair, which is why people have backup markers. MacDev's service and support is great and has come a long way in 2012 so I wouldn't let that aspect deter you.

Aggressivesports.net is a warranty center for Macdev and the only Annodizer that retains your warranty with Macdev guns.

I live in Africa. I know what its like not having a shop close buy that can repair my marker.
That has not detracted me from owning Macdev. With the likes of shootnpoo, Mark and others here and on the Macdev Militia help forum, I have not needed to send mine in and the few issues that I have had, that inevitably occurred due to user error, were resolved quickly and efficiently.
I have owned two Mini's and three Axe's.
Up until I shot my first Macdev marker, I was more than happy with the way they shot.
They are great markers and i believe one of the more underrated of the mid range markers,
However, the Drone is in a different class. You can feel its been made like a top end. It shoots better than a Geo 1(which was considered a top end) and sells for the price of a mid range.
My Drone was the most bullet proof ball on ball performer that I have ever owned.
I only sold it to get a GT.

Also; if you h e yet to shoot a MacDev why do you assume that it's hard to gets parts or fix them? Like most guns, any MAJOR issues should be sent back to the company for repair. Otherwise there are an abundance of sites that have macdev parts. Even the beloved ansgear has them.
However, if you look at most GT owners for where to get parts...they will all point you towards Shootnpoo and his site. It has everything you could want for a macdev and its highly praised by most GT owners.

The drone is one of the most simple guns ever... Like 3 pieces to the bolt, lube it and you'll be fine.
