Removing crossfire regulator

I have an empty crossfire 70/45 stubby tank and I am planning to swap the stock HP reg for a Ninja SLP one.

I drained the tank and it looks to me like if I can remove the fill nipple and gauge I will be able to use a regular crescent wrench to remove the reg (although i've heard crossfire regs can be a real pain).

Question: is it safe to use a hair dryer to heat up the fill nipple/gauge threads to make them easier to remove?

After that i'm assuming it's brute force to remove the reg itself.

Thanks!

I'd say hair dryer is perfectly safe. Open flame is what can really ruin things.

If you have doubts about removing and installing the reg yourself don't be afraid to take it to your field/pro shop and have them do it.
Honestly you shouldn't need a hair dryer for the fill nipple and gauge. They should come off with enough torque as it's only plumbers putty that holds them in place or something akin to it. It shouldn't be loctite unless somebody applied that down the road.

Good stuff guys!!

Yeah, open flame would be pure idiocy.

I'll probably give the gauge and fill nipple the old college try and if I can't get those off I have a buddy who could probably get the job done. last resort would be my local shop, but I always hate paying people to do a job I know I can do.

Ya personally I took my tank and regulator to the local shop to have them install it just to make sure everything was done correct and torqued. Cost I believe $10, so wasn't breaking the bank or anything.
