Anno Stripping

Please, before I get the "Did you even go read the Stickies and such" posts, listen. I did go through and read a few threads concerning DIY anodizing and Anno-stripping, but didn't exactly end up with what I need to know.

What is the best stripper that will keep pitting at a minimum? I know Oven-Cleaner makes the aluminum pit, since my friend did it to his ego7 accent kit.. turned out okay, but the surface was clearly effected.

Thanks for the help in advance I didn't wanna go around PM'ing people like the annoying needy kids do, so answer at your convenience I have a little project coming in that I'll be progress reporting in the voided warranty section.

Don't listen to anyone that says to use drain cleaner or oven cleaner... Immersion in a caustic soda solution is the best option for you...unless you wish to purchase a product specially made for anodizing.

I guess I coulda done that too, but figure I'd stick to here since you guys know more about the chemicals that are best to use.

I was also considering sand blasting, since I have a friend who owns a sandblaster. But idk how effective it would be in removing the anno without taking an uneven amount of metal off.

Might as well just tell you my plans to get an idea of what I'm looking to do.

Got a Geo I want to file the **** out of, and shape it up to nothing. Really just weight stripping, with some of the original design incorporated. I guess it really doesn't matter if I remove the anno before or after milling, but if I end up sandblasting, I might as well wait till after I finish shaping, correct?

I think I saw you mention in another thread about lye? Is there any way you can directly link me to what exactly I should be buying? It's just for one or two guns, so I don't need a lot. Googling it gave me too many options, and dunno which one to go with. I'd greatly appreciate it

If you are gonna get it re-annoed I'd just let the anodizer take care of the stripping. Raw ends up pretty crappy after a while. Caswell electroplating has a good forum for anno stuff.

I'll take a look around in there.

When this gets done, I'm either fully polishing the whole thing and getting it clear anno'd, or getting a custom anno from an individual on here. Not going to go to one of the companies and just hand over money for a run of the mill anno.

Lye, sodium hydroxide, naoh...all the same thing...I have bought some from ebay in the form of drain cleaner before..Make sure it is advertised as %100 pure.

If you are in fact getting it re-anodized by someone please let the anodizer deal with stripping. Its already built in to the price and no one is going to give you a price break if the parts are already stripped simply because it turns into a liability for us.
