its not too bad on batteries if you take them out after your done playing. also i did notice that the spire does feed faster than my vmax. my only complaints about the vmax was its loud and if can feed really inconsistent when the batteries are starting to get low

im assuming the idle problems kick in once the car is fully warmed up? If so, you have a bad sensor causing the car to run lean or rich. The reason it does not do this during initial start up is because its going off a default fuel table (that is very accurate). Once its warmed up, the tune gets adjusted based on the o2 sensors readings. If the o2 is bad, the tune will be adjusted incorrectly and cause a bad idle. That or a bad coolant temp, intake temp, or throttle position sensor could cause this. The idle valve could also be to blame.
Most likely you have a check engine code (even if you dont have a light). Get the car scanned at autozone or any other parts store (they do it for free).

I had this issue when I owned a protege. Dropped the expensive fuel system cleaner in and it was fixed after a tank of gas

could be but doubtful. its not a 90s car.
it could be alot of things but it sounds like its going into limp mode after it goes into closed loop fueling. Idles fine until it lets the o2 sensor take over then bam its bad. 99% of the time thats a sensor problem. This is why we have obdII and scanners, makes it easy.

okayyyyy must of read it wrong.
i would still get it scanned before you try some additives. It could easily be the coolant temp sensor. If it thinks the motor is warmer than it really is, it wont add as much fuel as it should (warm up enrichment) and the car will idle bad. I know this because that was a table i had to program for my race car. I never perfected it so i had to let warm up before i drove, otherwise it would stall.
this is not a fuel system problem, otherwise the car would NOT DRIVE.

Still a little bitter cuz I get to pay my credit card bill by the 11th . At least it drives now. I guess I can't complain too much, I have over 193,000 miles on that thing.
