That's why you get a used kx/cr/yz85, learn on it for a year, then sell it for almost what you bought it for.

Or same **** with a 125 and if he decides to keep it he can upgrade it and it still fit him...

Weren't you the same one who recommended a 250?

I said I'd rather see a new rider on a 4-stroke than a 2-stroke if it's going to be a big bike. I wouldn't have wanted to ride a 2-stroke 125 for my first bike. People when they start out are usually somewhat scared to rev the bike high, and you end up with people who get comfortable just putting around, but aren't comfortable with the power higher up. So they'll go wide open throttle at lower RPM and think they're fine, then they'll hit powerband and get thrown on their ***...

Asked him yesterday if he wanted to ride my 250 with me, when he hopped on that thing I could see the nervousness in his eyes, but he manned up and rode it semi well. he's gonna need a four stroker so I'm getting him a 250, I'm not comfortable giving him a two stroke: he will probably hurt himself if he hits the powerband on the trails we ride.

More info is really needed for a good answer.

If he is just learning to ride and is going to be doing trails or dicking around in the country why not a dr-z125 or similar trail bike?

The powerband isn't some mysterious range in the RPM where the bike takes off like you strapped a rocket to it. I don't see why everyone thinks that's what happens. The powerband is where the engine is making the most power. A 4 stroke has a large power band compared to a 2 stroke, that's why nobody says anything about it. You're almost always in it, or you wouldn't be making **** for power.

But still, get the 250f. I learned on one riding trails with some jumps.
