Converting an LED to a different power source.
Hi all,
I saw a thread (on Angel Owners I think) a while back that talked about converting an LCD Angel to CR123A batteries (camera and flashlight batteries).
Would this work in an LED? I have a functional single trigger LED but no charger, and would like to get it running again without intalling a new board.
The link to the LCD conversion thread is here:

Thanks in advance for any thoughts or suggestions.

You can do a battery conversion like your talking about, or buy an Intellifeed hopper wire and get a compatable charger and splice the intellifeed wire onto it... OR wait and find an LED charger for about the price of another LED... GL with whatever route you end up going! If you ditch it I'm always looking for parts guns

The same procedure for the LCD will work with the LED - just adapt it for the LED wire harness. You can also move to a small custom board and use 9 volt batteries as well, or like Schnell said, put together a DIY charger and keep using a rechargeable.

Thanks guys! I appreciate it.
It seems like a relatively simple modification. But then, so would your suggestion of moving to a smaller board like a T-board.

T Board is a good choice for the LED because of the size. You might be able to squeeze a PMR board in there if you notch some material out from the inside of the frame.

I have a couple of LCD's with fried boards that I was thinking about trying the PMR or PM7 mod on.
I think I also have a Chaos board kicking around in the parts bin. Any trick to setting those up?

Chaos board is an excellent choice as well - I used to recommend them over the Uni T board before they were discontinued. No real trick, just get the right wires to the right places.

Cool. Is there still a manual for those boards floating around anywhere?

if you are planning on using a Chaos board. i do ICD harness work. sorry for the shameless pitch, but i can't tell you how to go, but i can only help you with the one choice. so PM me if you do want to go ICD/Chaos harness. never did an Angel before, but i can either convert the existing harness(id'ing the wires and putting them in the appropriate spot on the bus for the board or try to make a new one for you(i've put off rewiring my on Angel for a new battery and i can not guarantee anything other than a fun winter project)...
though, i don't think that the Chaos board can support a dual colour LED. i don't have one as i never tried it in any of my ICDs. but we can talk.

It would probably be easier to just run a new harness for the Chaos board - the stock wires are a touch tight, and you want enough slack for good placement. Plus you can QD things like the solenoid wires, which is convenient for disassembly.

If you're wanting to use a 9v, you're going to have a hard time to make it fit in the frame. I milled my led and threw a Timmy board in it, it was a pita to get everything to fit.

I ended up just buying an intellifeed cable and converting one of my LCD chargers to work with the LED.
