I am new to paintball and getting into playing some woodsball and scenario stuff. I purchased a tipmann project salvo to start off with. I was thinking of using hpa but someone mentioned these guns would work better with co2. Anyone have any tips or experience with using air in the salvo or should I infect use co2

Paintball guns ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS work better on HPA. CO2 can freeze your O-rings, shortening the life of some internal components and is also very inconsistent meaning it can cause velocity spikes. If you can use HPA, go for it.

However, Tippmanns (except the Phenom + Crossover) cant run on LPA unless they have kits to do so.

So yes, use HPA.

Pretty much all markers now work better on hpa. You get better consistency on hpa. However if your far from a fill station like me co2 gives you more shots per fill usually. The early tippmanns like I use like tippmann prolite, 68 carbine(before the cvx valve) can only run on co2.

HPA if you have a place to fill it.

I recently purchased a salvo as well. Consider a remote line to move some of the weight off your arms when going HPA. The salvo isn't exactly a lightweight (compared to many paintball gun offerings) gun, and the addition of a 3 lb tank doesn't help it much!

Now with the opperating pressure being 800psi how will that translate to performance with a HPA tank? Am i better off with a bigger tank? 68/45 or 90/45

Tippmann markers aren't the most efficient...tank size is really a preference/cost decision. If you can afford a 90/4500 go for it...the larger volume if the tank will allow for more shots...how many I am not sure.

The bigger you go the more shots per fill you get. If you have easy fills it doesn't matter too much but putting a big tank on an already big gun may be too much for you after a while.

i have shot many many tippmanns, in over 20 years of play.. so Hopefully that matters to you regarding my opinion. A good rule of thumb/formula for you, for shooting tippmanns; if using 58c/3000 tank, you should get around 580-600 shots on a stock Tippmann. If you use a 58ci/4500 tank, expect around 900 shots. if using a 3000 psi tank, multiply the #of CI by 10, to get an estimate of how many shots you will get. If using a 4500 psi tank, Multiply the #of CI by 15 to get an estimate.

This is a rough rule. I hope this helps.
