I always thought it was crazy how expensive paint is in Canada, not just your province but across the board it seems like. It really sounds like something is up. Another route would be to go the legal route and dissect their costs and and try to uncover a price fixing scandal. In the U.S its highly illegal and I imagine its similar in Canada. With a property that size though, a night patrol man sounds like the most realistic. Best of luck on this and keep us informed.

a PI would watch a few guys, while a armed guard(illegal in CANADA!) has to watch an incredible amount of land. And then what happens when that guard catches them in the night? They can run off in any direction into the woods and be lost very quickly. Get a PI, get their finacials, if you see them renting any bobcats or heavy duty equipment, you have him, and a nice lawsuit. Perhaps big enough to take their field and run it.

You couldnt afford to get me to patrol the woods unarmed from 10pm-6am in montreal, gets real cold there.

You can get an armed guard cheap and easily recover the cost with a minor temporary price increase on paint like $10 a case until the vandal is caught..
this option costs you NOTHING, provides security all night which will either completely prevent vandalism or will actually catch them. Problem solved

it is illegal to even have body armor in Canada as a civilian. even more to carry.

Understandable, but by hiring through the proper sources can you not get someone who would fall outside of these regulations? For example, are bank guards unarmed, or armored car drivers? If so, thats crazy but I see what you mean, if not then what measures are required to get permits to carry a weapon? Im not talking about having your buddy joe camp out with a .45, I mean to get a registered security guard.

Not to mention such activity might also fall under racketeering or organized crime if you have enough evidence of an ongoing conspiracy. That's prison time! I'm no lawyer though so I could be dreaming.

A security guard will basically be unable to do anything but call the police. Which may dissuade the perps but..........the police will take an hour to get there anyway. I'd rather my efforts be proactive then reactive. Hunt the buggers down! In fact go out of your way to let them know you're hunting them down. Make them afraid.

Realistically a secure location is the best option.

I didn't read every post in the thread but why are you so convinced it's the other paintball fields? My first thought was with the property being that vast and remote, parts of it could be occupied with some sort of marijuana grow operation and the other occupants are trying to get you to leave.

Also there aren't many pot growing operations up in the Canadian wilderness. The growing season isn't very long and the stuff stands out like a sore thumb. While I'm sure there are some(I've found one before) they are usually some dude growing his own low quality crap. No cartel operations, they do those indoor up this way.

The Night Vision game cameras are nice, but can be stolen or shot (criminals do have guns in Canada), and are easy to spot at night. Most cell phones can see the IR of the night vision camera, and it's bright. They are much harder to spot in the day time.
I do have 2 of these and they do work, just know the limitations. If they don't spot them, they are nice, but the memory card does fill up in 1 to 2 weeks. Plus it's just a picture or video after everything has happened, and if they wear masks (ski masks in winter in Canada is normal), they may not help too much. The resolutions is okay, but licence plates are a maybe at more than 20 feet in the day time.
These cameras did help me figure out a vandalism problem at my field, just turned out it was coyotes and not some retarded kids, which is what I first thought. They were cuting my security camera cables and my cable to my wireless internet receiver. They just were using a very dull "knife" and at weird almost random hours, with no illumination at night time. My cabled security cameras are extremely sensitive to light at night time. Once I knew what the problem was, I eliminated the coyotes permanently.

This is a low cost solution that allows for the motion detection system to alert you via text message with a click through that takes you to a live video image of the detection. The recording system may be programmed to record 1 - 5 minutes pre and post motion detection.

Works great at our indoor facility with no less than 3 staff members and a private security firm receiving the live feed.

His site is pretty remote apparently......he may not even have cell service for such a device. It sounds like a neat system though.
