As of now, Long Beach is planning on hosting an event in mid-late Jan. We haven't started the planning yet but there is a facebook group for team captains/representatives of schools interested in participating. PM me if your school isn't on there yet and I'll add your school to the group

My friend plays for Cal State Long Beach and he said they just travel to nationals every year since there aren't many tournaments. I however being the cadet in charge of the Virginia Military Institute team, we have to play 4 tournaments to get to nationals. It would be awesome to see my home state get a conference up in running. Don't let it be just California in the conference include other states as well. My conference over here in VA includes Kentucky, Maryland, Georgia and the Carolinas.

We would love to and have tried (unsuccessfully) to start a conference every year I've been in school. The problem is teams out here either:
1. do not receive funding and can't afford to play Class A
2. do not survive as an active program for longer than a couple years.

the numerous budget issues facing CA make it incredibly difficult to keep people playing in college. Long Beach has been fortunate enough to have a great club sports department help us out and make it possible for us to play Nationals every year. We do play an entire set of matches on Friday to earn a wild card spot every year.

Hey, I want to set up a team/club at UCR. Any advice on how to go about that?

Get a team together and approach your club sports department. I know a couple guys who play and go to UCR. It helps if you show them some video of what paintball is to convince them we are not a paramilitary training organization. Also, don't expect funding your first year but make a long term plan to get more publicity which translates to funding later. Relations with school newspapers and media are really important in the long run. We took a couple school journalists out to a practice and paid for them but got a couple great articles in the paper in exchange

A video that would help would be the video Eclipse TV did on the NCPA. The video is on YouTube and helped convince our club sports department. My school, VMI is in its second year and our club sports already wants us hosting tournaments and what no. It just takes time and performance. Also along with school journalists another idea would be a school photographer, that is what we did and there photos up of us playing in tournaments and more people have come to realize there is a paintball team at our school.
