Please, go ahead and be specific about what is bad about his tattoo. It looks good to me. Solid line work, traditional drawing, solid shading. Not a single blowout that I can spot.

Except that's a genuinely artful, well thought out, and well executed piece.
Solid line work and shading don't account for anything when it's a terrible design to begin with.
