Worry less about the weather and more about money and time. Too close to Nationals and a lot of teams will not attend to save money to play Nationals instead. I'd recommend the first weekend everyone is back in January; rock it old school and don't release the layout to put everyone on an even field. Then for a fourth do the last weekend of February or first in March. As for Spring Break, you're going to have to step on someone's break no matter what weekend you do in the Spring semester, just pick it and stick with it.
Cold weather events suck, but they're doable. Just keep the paint and players from freezing and hope that it doesn't rain before or during the event.

If we do one too early in January,I bet lots of schools won't come (ours included) due to funding requests. Take too long. And we cant request funds for the spring... Until the spring

VMI won't be back from Christmas break until Jan 13. Also our Spring break is March 8-17. Just putting dates out there to help out with teams willing to plan and host the events.

I think in the past it has been difficult for us to find an indoor field with the field dimensions, staging space, and parking to host an event. If you have a field to suggest, I think it's worth the consideration.

Another reason to avoid March. That gives you all of March and half of April to practice for Nationals without spending money on tournaments.

If teams will actually go, its a good idea. That being said, I can nearly guarantee that ECU won't be able to travel that far. Obviously, we don't make or break anything for one team, I just figure it's worth mentioning.

An event in NC/SC works better for us. I don't think we would be able to make the trip either.

Yea that would count VMI out. Also I have a question, I am from California and my buddies play on Long Beach State. They don't play four tournaments yet go to nationals every year. Granted they start out in last place, but what are the rules on that exactly? Maybe this isn't the right thread, if not point me in the right direction.

Liberty will not be able to make it to CFP except for nationals. NC/SC is definitely better for us.

Season standings, in general, are calculated by your school's highest 4 tournament scores, and your score at Nationals. However, there is nothing saying you have to earn your way, or be invited, to Nationals. Any team is free to not play whatever events they want--with the exception of regular-season Class A tournaments.

to be perfectly honest, i doubt EKU will be at the early spring event regardless of where it is. (unless its local ) due to local series commitments, funding, and we are all little girls that dont wanna play in the cold... but mostly funding and other commitments.

Would Liberty or Virginia Tech be able to host a tournament next semester?

I will admit that I am new to NCPA, especially considering this team JUST got off the ground, but would the best option not be to find a rough central location for everyone, say in mid-Georgia for not only a more winter based tournament, but also the spring events as well? I know teams earn the right to host, but right now it seems to be a huge availability problem first. Does anyone know of a place in GA/NC/SC that has an indoor facility? I know here in Louisville we have one that could work for a three man and another that could work for a five man, but I know it's more of haul for teams. By the looks of it with funding issues and everything else, the only thing that could possibly happen in January is a smaller tournament such as a 3-man in mid/late of the month. Just thought I would throw in my 2 cents.

3man isn't an option because it doesn't follow the ncpa format. There aren't any indoor fields in GA, but I know Mario would be happy to host another if people want and we are in North GA. Obviously, we want to give other teams and fields an opportunity to host first since we have already, but the option is always available.
Louisville tournament would be kind of cool if the field met specifications. We have never been there so it may be an event we would put together some funding and attend if it happened...
