It is all a matter of supply and demand. When people are ready to pay $4-500 for a bottle, they will make them available. I sell compressors that can pump to 6000 psi as well as those that only pump to 5000 psi. I would say that I sell 30 5000 psi compressors to every 6000 ... simply because of the added cost.

When we made Evil Air Systems for PMI, we made 5000psi rated bottles. However, noone had a fill station capable of filling to that pressure. More of a gimmick than anything else at the time. Dont think we'll be seeing higher than 4500psi.

I don't think the cost versus demand is there. It would cost too much for everybody...fields would have to get new compressors that would be able to fill up to that. Tank companies would have to create new regulators to handle the higher PSI, etc.

There was only the Evil 5000psi system. We never made a 6000psi rated bottle for PMI when they were around.

it would be pretty sick to have something that big, but I can totally see the cost being a prohibiting factor...

the additional material to the bottle would increase its weight too much.

Most tanks cascades use currently can't go that high can they?.. We had some old carbon wrapped bottles at our field we found that are 10k psi rated (allegedly).. But no way we can fill them anywhere near that high with the current Bauer compressor we use.

If you look at the actual capacity on the tanks, many are rated higher than the 4500 that they state.
The unfortunate thing is that we have to make everything dummy proof in this world, so you wouldn't want a kid going to the 6000 fill station with a 3000 tank.
While it isn't safe, it wouldn't be as critical is someone started to fill a 3000 tank on a 4500 station. It would crack the tank and probably splinter the fiber, but a 6000 station would blow a 3000 tank up like a grenade.

Not really. Hooking up a 4500 PSI feed line to a 3000 tank will not damage the tank because they are built with a safety mechanism ... the burst disk.

If you put 6000 psi in a tank thats rated for 3 or 4 then yes it will blow up like a grenade

Yes, the burst disc.
None of them have ever failed?
lol

Of course they fail! But ALWAYS by blowing too soon. It is IMPOSSIBLE for a burst disc to blow at a higher pressure.

You're assuming the pressurization is instantaneous. If your input source is running at 6000psi, that doesn't mean that your tank is instantly going to 6000psi when you fill it. The air entering the tank at 6000psi drops to a significantly lower pressure as it expands to fill the empty space in the cylinder. As this space is filled, the pressure rises. That's why your gauge climbs from empty to full instead of just snapping to full when you fill your tank. The burst disk will blow, although the question becomes, will it vent faster than the fill station can supply air?
