Red Dawn
Part of me wants to see this, and the other part of me says if I see this I will be watching one of my favorite movies get raped in a remake.

look at the way Hollywood remakes any movie. can you say that someone after the fact made a remake that was actually better?
my problems with the remake is:
1) different time. the 80's Red dawn was something that was possible. the Soviets could have invaded, the big bad enemy was there. i don't know who the bad guys are, but who are they and what significance would they physically want to invade? throw some money at us and we would capitulate.
2) the characters where kids that had to learn how to do this, had to learn how to kill in order to survive. the classic fish out of water story. don't need Channing Tatum being all beefcake and not showing any emtion that his and their lives turned upside-down, that their homes and family are lost and that this is so wild that they would be gobsmacked about everything.
3) have no clue about the political overtones about this. but as the original was a propaganda movie about the political instability of the great Russian/Soviet Bear and how they are going rule over the world, what is the message of this one? the persons who make the trailers now, IMO, either ruin a movie by showing the best parts, or the pop/wiz-bang parts but neither conveying the message of a movie. trailer making is an art a lost one.
4) don't worry about it. with today's home stereo and theater type screens and stereos. you won't miss much. i'd anticipate that by St. Patrick's Day the movie would be out. rent it then for $2 and be happy when you are proved right about it being a stinker.

This is actually an example of a decent movie to remake because the first one is a cool idea but done poorly. But it will probably be just as bad as the first one.

I saw it about an hour ago and I liked it. They make the plot somewhat plausible, as they do one of those news sequences at the beginning. Had Josh Peck and Josh Hutcherson switched roles, it would have been better too. It was kind of cheesy and hoaky at parts, but overall not as bad as the critics say.

Don't believe the critics. They are often wrong anyway.
Better developed than the original Patrick Swayze flick. Not as sad as the original (everyone dies in the original). It had my adrenaline going.
You will notice many similarities between this and the game Homefront. It is like that on purpose, as Homefront was inspired by the original Red Dawn AND the creator had a hand in all of the stories.
What I didn't like - I've noticed this quite a bit lately, movies aren't showing passage of time well. At all.
I would see it again.

I never rely on critics, however if they are in general agreement over something (8/10 said this movie blows) then they usually aren't very far off the mark.
Some of my friends saw this and said its alright. Something to rent when bored but not worth the money to see in theaters. They said it'd have fit in better if it had come out during the summer as a popcorn flick.
