Cure ST2 Bolt
Has anyone heard any scuttlebutt on whether the Cure ST2 bolt will be available separately like a Cure 4 or DART kit?
I was playing a game up in Indiana this past weekend and it was cold as hell (low-mid 40's). My Geo 3 was shootin' like a champ with the stock bolt, but my nephew's Geo 2 was a damn blender. I tried upping his dwell/lowering pressure and bumping up his bore size with no success. I installed my ST2 bolt from my Geo 3 kit and his gun was mowing faces again. I would like to get an ST2 for his gun for cold weather play. It would be great if PE started offering these bolts separately.
On another note, does anyone know why the ST2 is supposedly less efficient than the stock bolt?

the open piece in the middle of the rubber, that open circle... I can't honestly tell you specifics but that's the reason.

I haven't tried it out in my Geo 3 yet but does this rubber tipped bolt have a different sound signature than the stock bolt?

I just can't fathom why it would be less efficient than that stock bolt. The only difference I can tell between the 2 is in the bolt face. The Cure 4 is pretty darn efficient and it is open-faced.
I keep hoping Jack Wood or Nicky T will jump in and provide some information...lolz.

I am hoping for them to chime in as well. Efficiency should be the same unless you have to adjust the reg from one bolt to the other to keep velocity the same..... May have to play with the chrono and bolts tomorrow. I am curious now.

Indeed. I could tell the difference also. Thank you.
That bolt plus the bolt speed control turned all the way in,.. Is gonna sound nice!

My theory for why the venturi face is more efficient is that it restricts the airflow allowing less air to be released before the sprung prop shaft moves forward and seals off the the airflow through the bolt much in the same way that slowing the bolt speed down increases efficiency by allowing the sprung prop shaft more time to begin moving before the bolt is completely forward. If that makes any sense. I'm sure the great Jack Wood could explain it better than I.

Well for one thing, a Cure 4 bolt is for a Ego and not a Geo, and we all know that the Ego is more efficient and is also a poppet. And i don't think the soft tip bolt is called a cure 2 st bolt.

Please refer to PE's website and you will find that the nomenclature I used for the soft tip bolt is indeed correct. I was not making a comparison of spoolies and poppits nor am I naive enough to not know the difference between bolts used by the two. I was pointing out that the Cure 4 and ST2 bolts share the same open face design and that alone should not cause the ST2 to be any less efficient than the stock ST bolt.

Per a phone conversation with the great Gerry Bates, don't expect the ST2 to be available separately - ever.

I asked Nicky T via email about the efficiency differences between the two bolts, and he said it wouldnt really be anything too noticeable.
