Delrin allen keys
What if there were delrin allen keys made so you could take off your back cap from a spool without scratching the inside of the hole.
It would only work for the bigger sized keys, like 1/4" and above but it would be great for spools back caps.
just an idea

well delrin would snap even at 1/4". even if it didn't snap, you get a bolt cap that is a little more snug, you'd never move it and you will snap it.
be a little more careful and don't put things on at retard strength levels.

if you don't have any positive criticism to add please don't say anything
it wouldn't snap, it would probably strip before that happens. The back cap on a spool is usually hand tight anyway the only reason it doesnt come off is because there's no way to grip it.
There are valve removal tools for autocockers made of delrin, and those work on the same idea. Keep in mind how tightly an autococker valve nut is put in, some have red locktite on them too.
I don't really feel like doing it all out, but you could use the yield strength of delrin under torsion and figure out when it would break

Brass would probably be a better material.

I know of a material that may work. what sizes, length and bit sizes are the most popular and ill see about getting a few made for people to try.

delrin would hold just fine.
What I would do is cut the hex in to a 3/4 stick and fashion it so it will go in a socket wrench.
That stuff is very tough to break....it will more likely strip the key first.

That's actually a really good idea
I just need to find a hexagonal stick of delrin, which shouldn't be too hard

Why not just use raw aluminum. It won't snap as easily as delrin and the raw aluminum surface won't scratch the anodized finish of the cap.
Brass can actually damage steel if it is of certain grade. Believe me, I've done it. I have no doubt it would do the same to aluminum.
I feel simply being careful with a standard wrench is the best option, as already stated by Nobody609.
If I were to make this tool I would go with a soft aluminum myself.

I was actully thinking about aluminum
the only reason I'm even bringing this up is because I'm really anal retentive about my gear, specifically my gun, I like it to look spotless. I have a black back cap on my gun so every tiny scuff shows up really clearly.
Idk maybe I'm just crazy, but I figure if I can get it to work I might as well share so other people could benefit too

it might work if the hex section was as short as possible. maybe not a hex key but something like a screwdriver handle with a hex stub sticking out. Just something to help you get a grip on.

what about using a 1/4" hex stick of delrin maybe an inch long and then using a 1/4" socket on a screwdriver to turn it

I dont know where to get 1/4" delrin hex stock I would think that for something that size you would be best off to make it out of a single piece.

You could spray the ends of your allens with a thin rubber coating, worse that could happen is it winds up being too big, and then just scrape it off.
