"I Don't Know Anything" Thread

Well a cousin of mine who joined he military a few years ago gave me all of his old paintball gear. I thought I would get into it at the time but never did. This stuff has been just sitting in my attic for a few years now. So the real questions are what is all of this stuff, only played a couple times when I was young, and is it actually worth anything? Any help with be would be much appreciated.

This one is completely worthless... I'll take it off your hands for $25 + whatever it costs to ship it.

Just kidding. That one is actually worth a decent deal depending on its condition. I'm sure someone with better knowledge on Dye Cockers will chime in. You might be able to get something out of that fiber wrapped tank, and maybe some out of the CP barrel depending on the bore. The other guns really aren't worth too much. They're Spyders and the market is saturated with used ones, and they're all pretty much the same thing.

Again, that orange fade is worth a few hundred, and the rest you might be able to get $100 to $150 out of all that.

Did a little looking around the PbN B/S/T on Dye cockers and a rough number I could give you on that one is $300 to $450. Could go for more, could go for less. It is hard to tell without knowing if it shoots, or if all the internals are still there (I would bet they are considering the external looks).

FYI, if you are considering on selling it, you will have to list it for sell in the Buy/Sell/Trade section under mechanical guns or all your stuff in the gearbag section.

Thanks. I will be putting up for sale and will create a new thread. Just wanted to get a little info on the guns and gear before I post them up. After doing a quick search from what model you told me it was, found the same price range.

the orange/white cocker is a dye reflex from the early 2000's i believe. it looks likes in amazing shape. should be worth about $350 easy, even if it doesnt function properly. they arent common and are rather sought after.

the richochet hopper might net you $15-$20.

the 4 spyders might get you $20-$30, total.

the carbon fiber system x tank will probably bring $50ish, im assuming it needs to be hydrotested, (tanks need to be tested every 3-5 years to make sure they are safe). closer to $100 if the hydro is still good.

$15 for the black aluminum tank, maybe $30 if its in hydro.

$5 for the tank covers?

the pod packs might bring $10 each.

I remember Spyders always being a dime a dozen but even the Imagine? Replaced the 9V and tested, still works perfect. Are they as common as the others?

And where would I get the tanks hydrotested?

I'd say this is a pretty good breakdown

I couldn't remember at the time if this was the reflex or the ultralight, but after some searching, I remember which one was which, and this indeed the reflex.

yea, even the imagine. it might bring like $10 more than a mech lol. really they are a dime a dozen and by the time someone is into paintball enough to learn about this site, theyve learned about other guns which make spyders nearly worthless.

crossfire and ninja can test the tanks. its about $30 after shipping. not really sure i would bother getting the black one tested, its almost cheaper to buy one new than to spend $20 on a used one and then more to get it tested. those tanks are around $50-$60 new.

edit: lol im the same way rasco, i can never remember the difference between the reflex's and the ultralight.

Any scuba diving shop will have the setup to do hydrotesting. Just call before you show up!

Umm... this not true. I used to work at a SCUBA shop, and we didn't have the setup to hydrotest. However, they will know who you can go to though.

agreed on the price of the dye reflex, 350-400 would be about right.

The white system x tank is useless, past it's life and should not be rehydro'd, 3 year hydro, 3 times, 9 year life, from 02, it's life ended last year.

The crossfire tank is again, not worth anything, new tanks are 50 dollars.

The spyders should pull 20-30 dollars + 8.95 shipping on ebay all day long.

Barrels are all spyder threading, lowers the value, but left to right:
CP 1 piece barrel, 15 dollars
The others are just cheap barrels, 5 dollars each maybe?

Why does it only have 9 year life? I thought CF tanks had 15 year life, meaning that tank should be good till 2017.

The lifespan of a tank is dictated by the frequency that it requires hydro testing. You can only hydro a tank 3 times, so if it has a 5 year hydro, that would give the tank a 15 year life span. If it has a 3 year hydro, that drops the life span to 9 years.

Gotcha...

But considering this gun was just stuck up in the attic with everything else. good chance this tank wasn't re-hydro'd yet, or at least not more than once.

I have to stand corrected,
E-09634 - manufacturer Luxfer, to be tested every 3 years, 15 year service life (regardless of hydro) so it is good until 2017 if it has not been hydrotested,
The above does not cover the testing process, only the manufacturing process, DOT covers how many times a tank my be tested.

This man is correct. All fiber tanks have a shelf life of 15 years. Fiberglass tanks need tested every 3 years and carbon fiber is every 5
