Shouldn't it be performance and not just the strength of schedule?

Jaypee it comes down to not being able to weight luck in an algorithm. It really is that simple and why the coaches poll is so different from the BCS rankings.

I don't know. Just saying it is what it is. Soon we will have a playoff and things should be vastly improved.

nope, performance shouldn't count at all, apparently. actually, why bother playing? just determine the champion after the schedules are made and preseason ranks announced

Not that I want to get involved in this but strength of schedule is a joke.

Both the Pac 12 and SEC schedule FCS games for the out of conference mathups. They essentially only play each other and thats supposed to determine how good they are?

On that note I don't think FSU is that good. Just not sure they should be a title contender.

In short, no. Though worthiest is hard to determine. Worthiest should theoretically be the best. But Alabama was the best last year, but they blew their chance when they lost at home to LSU. They later proved they were in fact the best, but were they the worthiest when they already had a crack at it and couldn't get it done?

A playoff is the only way to select a champion. Though the way the new playoff is structured, FSU would still not get a shot and you guys would still be pissed. And you'd have a right to be. That's why I like an 8 team playoff, but everyone tells me that will never happen.

Oregon did schedule a tough out of conference game last year, vs the SEC. And got crushed.

I used to think like that, but now that the SEC has proved themselves with 6 straight NCs, I believe they have earned the right to be looked at as a strong conference. It wasn't always that way. People used to think the Big was the best conference. When OSU beat Michigan in that epic game back in 05, people were saying there should be a rematch for the NC because those were the two best teams. Then it was a foregone conclusion that OSU would be champs. Until UF slaughtered them. Since then the SEC has been on top. If they get knocked off this year maybe we will need to re-evaluate things, but until that happens, they have earned their respect.

thank you, pat. this is the point i've been trying to make. though i would still argue that SEC is the best current conference, they're not nearly the strength they are normally and really only have one team that stands out (well, georgia has finally gotten into their stride as well). yet because they beat up on each other, people continue to pander that bias. it's just frustrating
