Yeah, you're right. Had the workers just agreed to go back to work then they would still have their jobs. Unions are no longer needed, the only thing they do is **** over everyone but the union leaders. If I ever start a company I'm going to do what ford did and fire anyone who trays to start a union.

The company that's filed for bankruptcy twice, canceled out contracts, and has failed to adapt to the changing landscape of snack, is not going under because of the union going on strike.
You clearly have not studied enough about unions to know in the long run they are a necessary part to a civil society.

Except we're experiencing unions in the post-industrial revolution age for the first time. We've got no evidence that the present situation with unions is a good one, or a bad one. Working conditions are acceptable most places in the US, and wages are decent. The unions, while they do good for their workers by arguing for a better wage, are almost unnecessary today in my opinion. They hold far too much sway over a company, are far too involved in politics, and border on greedy at times. I don't think we should abolish them, but they're not doing great things for companies and their workers anymore.
That said, Hostess didn't go down because of unions.

I'm not a pro union guy necessarily (though if you are a fan of the free market you have to like unions as they are a product of it).
That being said I will mail anyone a bag of the finest yay I can find, if you can find an otherwise healthy company that fell apart due to unions.
Unions tend to be a scapegoat of ailing companies who make poor decisions and as a last ditch effort to stay afloat they slash wages and benefits. The unions say "well that's gay and we aren't doing it" so the company that was guaranteed to fail due to market forces gets to blame the unions.

The thing is is that Twinkies alone are a 68 million dollar per year industry. I guarantee some snack company, besides Hostess, will buy the right to make twinkies.
Not to mention that Hostess makes 2.5 billion dollars in sales per year, so I'm pretty sure most of their big name products will be purchased by someone else.
