The vette will nickel and dime you to death if its not in good condition. I'd pass with that mileage. 87 isn't a great year either for that body style. You miss all the 88' updates.

Parts are really expensive for what the car is worth. C4s can turn into money pits really quick if you get the wrong one. If you want a c4 that bad save up and buy a nice lower mileage one

Buying my first (well 2nd titled to me) car this upcoming spring. I'm between a 2010-2011 S4 or S5. I've got pricing on each with around 20-35K in miles to right around the 40K line before trade in and down payment. I'd end up financing around 25K for it. I've got alot of time between now and spring, (hell might even push it back to next fall), and I like to plan, so I've been going out and test driving, talking with different dealers, etc. I'm a member on Audizine, but it's tough to get some guidance out of those guys, especially as a younger guy. Anyone with Audi experience, specifically with any of the S-Line cars, give me a shout as to what I should be looking for specifically on each car while test driving and inspecting; I'd appreciate it.

Can't offer much guidance on those specific years and models, however as an 8 year Audi owner I can say you will not be dissapointed. People often say German cars, audis, can be unreliable and such though with a good owner and regular matinence the car will rarely, if ever, let you down. Not to mention the Audi Quattro is unparalleled, out performing my Wrx easily. I can only speculate on the power of the S4 and S5, but I'm sure there won't be any problems in that area. Definitely take your time with the purchase and find the right one, 40k is no small purchase. I take it you're only buying CPO, which is for sure the way to go. Good luck.

Alright. I want a hot-hatch. 4 door.
I've narrowed it down to brand new focus ST ( I work at a ford dealership) or a CPO/low mileage GTI.

ST, I'd look at the mazdaspeed 3 too if you could get good deal on it, there isn't a huge difference between the two.

Don't particularly care for the MS3. Nice enough car, but didn't fit me quite as well as the GTI and ST. I've been leaning towards the ST but we had a nice GTI come through work the other day, and the price difference is a few grand.

Hot hatch? That puts you at:
VW GTI
VW R32
Ford Focus ST
Mazdaspeed 3
Subaru WRX
Subaru WRX/STi
Obviously the STi and R32 cost more but you get more car.
As far as MS3 vs. ST vs. GTI, the edmunds review had the ST winning all day against the GTI which barely beat the MS3. And, if you work at a Ford dealership, you can probably get a great deal on an ST and order it how you want. That being said, if it were me, and sticking with the ~25k cars, I'd go WRX. More power than some of the others and AWD. But you do lose some gas mileage and the interior is a bit lacking.
Why doesn't the MS3 "fit you" as well as the other 2 in your category?

WRX is too expensive to insure. More than double what the GTI/ST are. Either of those is already going to be pretty high compared to what I drive now (09 versa).
And it's hard to explain, it just didn't feel right when I sat in it/drove it. The GTI/ST just felt better.

Double the insurance of other similar sports cars? I find that hard to believe. Is that an actual quote from your insurance or heresy?
Also, do keep in mind when making this decision, while I recommend, stock vs. stock, the ST all day long, the GTI has much more aftermarket mod options than the MS3, which has a lot more than the Focus ST. If you plan to do anything to the car, keep this in your mind.

All the idiots driving those cars makes the insurance significantly higher. Probably true regardless whether or not he got an actual quote. They don't have much data on ST drivers yet so that would be cheaper, for one.

And the GTI wouldn't have plenty of those? You'll have a tough time convincing me of that one. A little higher? Maybe. Double the rates of an extremely similar car? No way.

I doubt the insurance would be double, the insuramce on my Wrx was extremely reasonable.
