Do any of you guys know if Buckley is a guard base? I can't find any information on it. Portal doesn't help. If it is and I could possibly get off base...yea buddy.

From their website (crazy place to look I know), it looks like its a blended wing. Has both Guard (airplanes) and active duty (space) units. More than likely they will have dorms.

If I was single I would of milked the chow hall and dorms to save up cash

I know in Vegas single person bah isn't enough to get a decent apartment in a ok part of town hardly unless u have a room mate.

F that noise. Nice house with a couple roomates is where the money is. 3-500 extra a month is very nice. Especially when you deploy, someone from the dorms would usually take your portion of the lease while you were gone. Then its pure profit. Gotta have good trustworthy roomates though.

you should hear from a sponsor in the near future. do you know what unit you're going to? If you do, call the base operator to talk to their CSS to get the ball rolling if you haven't heard from your new unit a month before you leave for Buckley. As a first term airmen coming to your first assignment they should practically hold your hand through the entire process.

You always stand to gain money collecting BAH and living downtown. But you really have to have good roomates or some sort of contract type deal with them to not just bail on the lease. But from what I can tell these new dorm layouts are way nicer.. but people will still find things to complain about.

Idk. The new dorms are nice. Chow hall isn't bad and is across the street and 2 minutes from work. Id do it for a year

I kliked tthe zero stress of dorms at keesler when I was there. Don't trash your room and everything else is provided I also got bah at the same time tho cuz I'm married.

Keesler you didn't even need a car. I just skated everywhere or took the bus

I got to check out some of the newer dorms here on beale. ****'s so cash. your own bedroom and bathroom and a common area plus a kitchen. If one of them could ghost their dorm and give me the key I'd let them live in my house just because I'd love to get an extra hour of sleep every night and walk to work.

**** yeah. Dude I k ow chow isn't great but I'd love to get all I can eat food whenever I want for $250/mo. Plus the fact that I could wake up 15 minutes before work started and still get there on time. I'm not saying dorms are the best but they have their ups for sure.

This is so true, so many people in my squadron complain about living in the dorms buts its really nice, having the chow hall like a 100yards away is big plus, also since we are a detachment on this base we get BAS, so getting meals for 2 bucks, you can pocket lots of money that way.

My current dorm room is really nice, the only thing that I don't like is the lack of any sort of kitchen. They give us BAS because we're on an Army training base and we aren't allowed in the dfacs. But with that money I can't cook anything, it has to be made in a microwave or on a charcoal grill.

I just didn't like the 0 privacy factor. Never failed, just coming home from work dog tired only to have the Shirt or some other dickhead knocking on my door wanting to inpsect the room or what not. That and living with a 100 other dick heads who act like 5 year olds the great majority of time. Living off base either in your own place or even with friends/roomates trumps living in govt facilities any day of the week.
